Which CMP organazation should I join so I may submit an order?? Are there any where I can print out proof of membership without waiting on the mail for a membership card??? And when it says "orders received without notarized signature will not be processed" does that just mean sign the damn paper? |
|
GCA The GCA sends new members info to the CMP regulary and usually gets your info to the CMP within a couple weeks. If you do not have your card to copy from the GCA you can add a note to your paperwork stating when you joined and the CMP will verify membership with the GCA then process your order. It took about a month for me to receive my GCA card. You must have your papers verified and signed by a Notary. Follow the directions provided with your paperwork and all will be good. |

Just in case it doesn't make sense, a notary public aka a notary is a licensed individual that verifies/certifies that it is you who signs certain legal paperwork. I'm sure there are other uses for notaries but that's all I've seen. Notaries are often lawyers, legal secretaries, town, county, village clerks, some insurance agencies, and almost every bank will have a staff member who is also a notary. So no you don't just sign it and send it, you must sign in the presece of a notary public and they sign verifying you signed and then you send it. It's a bit archaic but maybe with identity theft on the rise it's not a bad thing. SoS ETA- For CMP the notary signature form is good for three years (as long as you reside at the same address), subsequent forms don't need a notary. ETA2- I would suggest going to the CMP website and looking at their list of clubs, perhaps you may find you have a local club nearby that qualifies, giving you an additional place to shoot and maybe some garand clinics and shoots. Nothing wrong with GCA, I should join it. |
So if I fill the paperwork out in front of an FFL and have him sign, will that count as a notary signature? Or is there actually a license? |
|
No FFL needed. Start here: http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/eligibility_requirements.htm Like the others stated, a bit of paperwork but the CMP will ship directly to your door when eligibility is met correctly. And heres a link to the CMP forms, look them over for the sales too: http://www.odcmp.com/Forms/Form_Index.htm |

Wheelin quit stressing over a notary. Here, there's about 10 places within 1 mile that have notaries. I usually use a copy store that is the closest. I think they charge me $5 or $8 to have something notarized. You should be worrying about how you're going to pay for the dozens of USGI firearms you'll eventually be buying, bot some silly notary. |
It does not eliminate the need for the notary public nor the need to belong to a CMP affiliated organization, but it does take care of the match requirement/firearms training. If you are currently in the military, I believe that takes care of everything. As for a club to join, you might IM our very own The_Beer_Slayer to join his club. It's cheap and he and his wife are good folks. |

My bank will notorize documents for free. Especially when they found out it was to buy firearms from the Govt. Go to the links provided and it explains everything: if this then do this, if that do this.... Carry permit, veteran, notarized papers and order form got me in, and a membership to the GCA. |
No. You must have a notary do it. You only need two things. Notarized proof of citizenship and membership in an approved org. There is no way around this. Vet does not count, unless your currently active. The notary needs to see your proof of citizenship and ID. Her/his stamp and notary number MUST be included. There is no FFL involved either. They will mail it to you directly. This is legal thru a special act of Congress. Make sure you answer every question, print clearly. Double check all the info, and mail your CMP order form and GCA app at the same time. Don't forget ammo. CMP 30.06 is the best deal in ammo right now. |
Agreed. |
Only if you are a commissioned or warrant officer. If you are enlisted bring your birth certificate to prove citizenship. Citizenship is not waiverable. The CMP secretaries are notories who will notorize your paperwork free of charge as part of processing your purchase/application. Of course they can only do this if you are physically in the store. |
|
You can also join the Garand Collectors Asscociation while you are at the store. They have applications you can fill out on site. I am not sure how it works but it is possible to join the GCA and buy your Garand all with one visit to the store. Go here for more info. |
So if I fill out the application to the GCA, pay the dues, and wait to get my card, then I can purchase CMP rifles? it's that easy? I've recently got bitten by the M1 carbine bug and would like to pick one up. |
From what I understand you don't have to wait until you get your GCA card. The GCA provides the CMP with a list of it's members on a regular basis. |
Does the GCA need any notarized documents, or was that for something else? I'm trying to figure everything out. If I print out the pdf application, send it out, then as soon as the GCA sends my name to CMP, I should be good to go, right? |
It's not the GCA that needs the notorized documents. Your signature on the CMP Order Form and Purchaser Certification agreement have to be notorized in order for the CMP to submit your name for an FBI background check. From the CMP website: Customers should complete both the Order Form and the Purchaser Certification and Agreement and sign it before a notary. Orders received without notarized signature will not be processed. The information you supply on your application will be submitted by the CMP to the FBI National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS) to verify you are not prohibited by Federal, State or Local law from acquiring or possessing a rifle. Your signature on the Purchaser Certification portion of the purchase application authorizes the CMP to initiate the NICS check and authorizes the FBI to inform CMP of the result. IMPORTANT: If your State or locality requires you to first obtain a license, permit, or Firearms Owner ID card in order to possess or receive a rifle, you must enclose a photocopy of your license, permit, or card with the application for purchase. |
