Hey all.  I'm in the market soon for a Springfield M1A- want to get the 9226- Loaded, Black Synthetic Stock, Carbon Barrel.  My question is, and I know this may be a bit paranoid, but how can I check at the dealer if the rifle I'm being sold is in fact the Loaded:

www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=47

and not the cheaper Standard:

www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=41

I ask because I was at a gun show recently and realized an unscrupulous dealer could easily swap for one for the other- they're very similar.

I'm a novice when it comes to gun parts, (this will be one of my first!) so I need some sort of visual cue that doesn't involve me looking for some esoteric nub in the guts of the rifle.

Can anyone here help me?  Photos showing me what to look for would be *huge*.

Thanks so much!!

My 'loaded' came with a SS bbl, NM front and NM rear (non-hooded) sights, and  NM 2-stage trigger.

I just ordered a loaded model last week and will be getting it sometime in october. Can't realy help with your question but I'm so excited about my rifle I just had to share with you. I chose the carbon steel with walnut stock. I am also buying my buddies fiberglass stock. Anyways.....uh.... ok.

What do NM front and non-hooded rears look like compared to Standard???

IIRC, smaller rear aperture and thinner front blade.

The standard comes with a GI-contour barrel and the Loaded comes with a medium weight.
Lock the op rod back with the bolt stop and look into the open area of the stock the op rod was blocking and take a look at the barrel ahead of the receiver to see it's thickness and contour.

Compare barrel contours,

You can also ask Springfield Armory- just send them the serial number and they'll tell you.

Well guys, I am happy to report I am the proud new owner of this bad boy!  (Picking up in a few days from the store- but picked it out today).  And yep, everything you said was dead on- the sights, barrel contour etc., so many thanks.  Also, for those who are curious, the barrels *themselves* are stamped 'NM' as well.

Thanks all and happy shooting!

The barrel you had was stamped NM?  That is curious to me.  Congrats.  Now you have another mouth to feed.

My loaded model had NM on the CM barrel, front sight, & rear sight (you just have to elevate it to see it.) It also has a NM flash suppressor.
