In order to get the correct sight picture, I often find I'm lifting my head off the stock. What's a good, adjustable cheekpiece for a fiberglass M1A (SOCOM 16) stock? Thanks! |

I just ran across this and it looks like Law483 has stolen my design and has DWP making cheek rests. www.desertwarriorproducts.com/M1A-M14CheekRest.html Not good when Americans start knocking off Ameicans....I expected teh cheap knock off to come out of Taiwan as I have sent a few there. Oh well, live and learn. Karsten |
Karsten, That is false. Cease it now.
Tim, Lazlo had a solid design. Please read my response. I have addressed this in the proper forum. Since it has moved over here I must address it here. All concerned: This is a copy of what I sent to Karsten on his PM. Instead of collecting facts he has chosen to accuse me in public so I will respond in public. Kartsen's PM:
My Response to him before I saw this thread:
Karsten is not the original plastic saddle style cheekrest maker. The originals were the Rooster33 Ultimate Cheekrest made in Canada by Laslow; AKA Rooster33. Where is the rant about his copying them? I do not make the Desert Warrior Product (DWP) Cheekest; they make their own, and I don't know them personally. They were making the product before I knew they existed. I found them by searching the web. I am a straight-up person. Ask my customers. If you see a potential problem I ask that you do a little research before you so quickly call for a reveiw of vendor status; especially from someone selling through the forum who does not pay for vendor status. I saw no question on my PM from you asking for information. In my ads I list them as a DWP Cheekrest. To All: There are three that make Adjustable Saddle Style Plastic Cheekrests. Rooster33 was the first to make them. There are pictures of them everywhere. The workmanship was very good. They had 2 styles. The first had lobes on the bottom, the second (Improved) did not. They go through the middle of the stock giving a good mechanical hold on the cheekpiece. The downside was they went through a storage tube. The last I spoke with Lazlo Brownells was going to list them in their catalog, but that never happened. Kartsten was the second to make them. There are pictures of them everywhere. The general shape is the same as Rooster33's second design, but the proportions are different because of the location of the slots and drill point in the stock. The hole is drilled higher than with the Rooster33. It's not in the thickest part of the stock. The workmanship was excellent, but I did not care for the design. He had 2 styles; one had flush allen screws with "detents" that made for a more positive adjustment. The problem I had with this was when the screw was long enough to engage the allen screw it would bottom out in the corresponding flush allen nut. If I made the screw shorter it had a difficult time engaging the nut. This was due to flex in the material. The other style made concurrently was like the Rooster33 Ultimate Cheekrest with a carriage bolt and knobs. It also flexed in the middle because the material was not stiff enough to withstand the screw pressure and flexed until it met the side of the elliptical stock. I will mention that I never had a customer complaint about them; I did not like the way they fit when installed. Karsten may now have an improved version. It may be worthwhile to look at it. Desert Warrior Products is the third to make them. There are pictures of them everywhere. Their workamnship is excellent. They are very similar to both Rooster33's and Karsten's. They go above the storage tube, but they don't flex like the ones I had from Karsten. Karsten's new ones may not flex, but I don't have one to tell you. I carry the Desert Warrior Products Cheekrests. I had no hand in developing them and did not know they existed until they popped up. I sent customers to them until I decided I needed to carry them to meet my customer's needs. ??? is the forth one to make them. If they are a better product than what I am currently getting I will offer those to my customers. I do my best to offer products I believe in. If I offended someone by that I apologize, but I don't apologize for offering a great product at a great price. Best Regards, Tony Edited to respond to thughes without the btt:

It is an exact Knock Off.....not close, semi close or just a U shaped peice of Plactic...It is a frecking duplicate made of Cheap ABS Plastic cossting about $78.00 per sheet as to $300 I pay for top dollar Kydex. I find it funny the Laaw483 didn't like mine on the second go aronfd but but the same size, style.... In short the same thing is exactual like mine but somehow it is better.... Humm I played with 1/4 inch Material and even Law483 agreed it was overkill and ddn't look right.......Buy what you want, believe what you want. But there is some serious issues to be thought about......Law483 does like my design but an Exact Knock off of cheap ABS is great. Why would LAW483 want me to Redsign my Cheek PIece that didn't have a flaw just to back an ABS Knock Off....A fast buck at the expenise of oter shooters...If they break m=no big deal. Not a good option from what I make and what I put into making to best possible Cheek Piece at Present........Just not cool for Gun folks to rip out other gun folks but I guess times are changing. Oh well. Live and learn and figure out someone will screw you over. be it the ex wife or someome you trusted like Tony Lawernce. Buy what you want and are happy with as I don't care as no else does. See ya and buy all the DWP and LAW483 Knocks you want......I have ne hear and accounding to a Plastis Facicator it is an Failure waiting to happen. |

ENOUGH ! You two already have one thread discussing your disagreement over this issue, we do not need another. I refuse to have you two trolling any thread regarding this item with your differences. Both of you have stated your case, now let it go. Do not continue this argument on the boards. Either drop it or take it to IM/email nuff said |
