| Addition by subtraction. I have put up the G19 and my M4gery to get ahold of an M1A to keep my 1911A1 company. I just heard 9mm and .223 were for pussies so I figured I better go to 7.62 now that I'm getting marred and don't want to be lumped in. |

I really like M1A's. But personally. I think you're crazy. I would never give up a proven weapon for one not proven. I have a springfield and love it. I just wouldn't give up an M4gery for one. Especially one that runs good. And I don't like glocks personally, but they are good pistols. I don't know if I'd give that up either. You're looking at spending more money on both .45 and .308. .308 surplus is hard to find and it's still usually more expensive than .223 of same likeness. The only thing weird about 9mm is when you buy premium ammo, it's not that much less than .45. But plinking ammo is alot less than plinking .45 ammo. If you handload, this is a moot point. Which btw, I have to start getting into. Just some things to think about. |

if for the same money I'd opt for the wood stock and buy a USGI sythetic from Fred's for 20-30 bucks. The SAInc fibreglass stocks are nothing more than roughened up usgi stocks epoxy painted. They chip readily and people complaint about that. That and a lot of guys would rather have the metal buttplate not the filler rubber SAInc install. just figure I'd throw it out there for your consideration. SoS |
| As far as dumping the m4 for the M1a, you made the right choice, don't even think of looking back!!! 223 is for woodchuck and coyote, and girls that can't handle the recoil of the 308. Same with the 45 vs 9mm, don't look back. My 45 is a Glock 36 but that's only because I find a full size 1911 too heavy to carry every day, not because I don't like 1911's |
Well said. |
The M4 is for women but you can't handle carrying a 1911 every day. Seems like a contradiction of sorts. An M4gery is a very handy and able weapon for many more things than coyotes and woodchucks. To each his own though. I've got nothing against an M1a. Now glocks on the other hand.......

Tell that to the guys in the sandbox. 5.56/.223 is a much better round for home defense. 7.62/.308 is a bit of overkill inside the house. I have my Poly M14S and several AR10s, but I still use a 5.56 carbine for home defense.
I have pistols in both calibers and do not feel undergunned when carrying a 9mm loaded with 124 gr +P JHP. Rocksarge, instead of getting rid of those two, just buy a Poly or Norinco M14S. They come with a chrome lined barrel and a forged reciever for about $600-700. Get a USGI synthetic stock from Fred's as well as a USGI handguard. I got the ventilated one from Fred because I just think it lets the barrel cool off better. The only reason that I did those two things and use US made mags is so I could legally put on a flash suppressor/bayo lug. I still have less than $800 in it. Mine headspaces fine and shoots great. I have heard all the tales about "soft bolts". There was a run of those but everything that I can find out indicates that the later ones that could be imported into the US had bolts that were just fine. I have also heard the tales of "improper heat treatment" but have found no real evidence that this was anything but on one or two batches early on. If need be, you can get a bolt for it from Marstar in Canada for about $50. This is a brand new current production bolt. I would rather have my Poly that any of the other commercial M14 clones especially given what you get for the price. Some of the custom rifles built by the M14 smiths that you hear about were built on the Polys or Norincos. |
I never said that M4's were for women, I said they were for girls

Good luck on finding a Poly for $600-$700 bucks anymore unless it's a smoothbore. |
The current average price for a used ChiCom is about $750.00 - expect to pay more for a clean Poly heel stamp and NIB. Used heel stamped Norinco rifles don't seem to command much of a premium over side stamped Norinco rifles just yet. |
Very sexy! |
