What you are trying to duplicate is a stock made of american black walnut that was immersed in BLO or Tung Oil when new, then wiped with any number of GI lubricants and preservatives by recruits for several deacdes, right?  The reddish brown of a nice USGI walnut stock?

You are in luck,  To get that color on new walnut without 50 years or so of work you can get Chestnut Ridge Military Stock Stain.  Google it.  Use it after one coat of BLO or Tung Oil.  its alcohol based and will soak though the finish and this allows you to get a feel for the final hue more accurately then finish with your choice of BLO, Tung Oil etc...

Done with the above mentioned stain, DGR fitted unfinished stock set. 8-10 coats Deft Danish Oil, 0000 steel wool. HRA USGI Service Grade.
