Just got a Polytech M14/S on a trade and was wondering what it's worth. It is in excellent condition. It is an early import 1988 or so and is heel marked. It has had the receiver heat treated and a USGI (HRA) bolt installed by Smith Enterprise. Other USGI parts include HRA Op Rod, HRA trigger group, bayonet lug and stock w/ DOD and P markings. Any idea what it's worth? |

Depends..........has the bolt been changed out? Polytechs were bad about having soft steel and lose headspacing after a few hundred rounds. Switching to a TRW or GI bolt solves that problems and makes them worth more. No GI or TRW bolt.........$500-$600 range. With a bolt change $700-$800 range That's what I've observed at the gun shows around here. Chris |
| I don't have anything in writing to prove the work done by Smith but the guy I got it from is a stand up guy. I am going to call SEI tomorrow and see if they keep any records of their work. Here are a few pics: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b314/operator1/Polytech-M14/ |
| I see that same type rifle selling for around $1150 give or take. Heel marked pollys are more rare and Poly people will pay more for the usually. The bolt conversion and USGI parts bring up the value. I know some people get polys for less than that and thats great but I also bet it could sell for what I said if you let it ride. |
Thanks for the info. I looked it over again today and it's a heel stamped receiver. Serial # begins with 006 or 06, can't remember offhand. I'll give it a much more thorough inspection once I get it out of layaway. |
