Gentlemen, Now that we know that CMP is out of M1 Garands for now, I have some questions for you. How many of you are collecting or firing your M1 Garands? If collecting do you breakdown how you collect them? Do you breakdown by the maker, early, late types, British Proofs, Snipers, Inspector's stamp etc. ? Why I am asking this is on different sites I see guys looking to build their collection looking for parts, stampings, Drawing numbers, etc,. Do you have that one M1 Garand that you use as your special M1, for shooting or collecting? Thanks again Clancy www.garandm1rifle.com |

I wouldnt say i am a hardcore M1 Collector. I have a CMP Greek Field Grade SA rifle that is my range beater. I love it, and given the fact that it is cheaper right now for me to shoot CMP 30-06 than it is .223 its even more fun. As for a collectors standpoint. My next Garand will be a International Harvester, and from there try to round out the manufacturers. I already own technically 2 WW2 era SA's. 1942/1944 production. I do have a Springfield Inc. Normandy Commerative M1 that i bought on impulse and have taken it to the range a few times. But it sits in the safe these days and only gets out once and a while. |

I have around 40, pretty good mix of original rifles, CMP mixmasters, D, Navy models, NM's etc. I havn't bought an M1 in 2-3 years, it has gotten to the point that the crazy prices has taken all the adventure and fun out of collecting M1's..... I still shoot some of my M1's and do Garand matches and such but I'am pretty much done collecting M1's unless some really good deal falls in my lap....
