Gentlemen,
This is part of my old post about this Called "Carbine and Garand Prices" Below that is what the DEM'S got away with. We as a group must start our work NOW to stop what will happened if the DEM'S take all in the '08 vote. Just remember, that could be YOUR M1 GARAND in that picture. To bad we could not start a group to get together around the country to meet and talk about these types of issues and then report that on the Garand Boards. Remember you guys travel MILES for a GUN SHOW.

Without input from you guys no one learns anything Try to put in some info/question and we can learn more of the M1's History.

"You guys can thank Ted Kennedy for the prices at CMP. Back in the mid-70's I ran DCM shoots. DCM gave you ammo, targets and rifles to shoot the course with. ALL FREE. Then came Mr Kennedy. He wanted the DCM shut down and the Dem's almost got the job done. They didn't get the votes needed to close the DCM BUT they got the funding from the US ARMY cut to ZERO. DCM had to change to stay alive. What they had to do was change into the CMP and had to fund the whole operation. Under the old DCM you could buy only 1 rifle in a lifetime at about 99 bucks. Well, CMP let you buy more then 1 rifle and had to keep raising the price to stay alive. You guys know that prices on almost anything has gone up, so the CMP had to raise their prices. Remember, CMP has done a great job in getting these Rifles into your hands. We now have the problem that the Dem's might take the White House in '08. The 3 best things for us to do is Vote, join the NRA, yes but they are on our side and just might save us in '08, and last but in my opinion BUY AMERICAN from the CMP. They are out there for you guys so let's help support them. Stop all this noise about price increases that is going on everywhere. CMP gets you the real deal."

I agree with that 100%.  It would be nice if it was like it used to be, and you could get a really nice rifle, rare manufacturer, etc. by luck of the draw for the same bucks as everything else.  However, I have no problem at all with them auctioning/selling items the way they do, I don't need a new in wrap M1 or an M1C/D.  If someone is willing to pay several thousand for an M1 sniper rifle, they probably will appreciate it a lot more than me and they are helping the CMP program a lot more than I'm capable of also.

And yeah, CMP does get you the real deal, no doubt about it.  Not often can you get somewhat of a 'pedigree', and at the same time it's priced lower than most of the other stuff out there.  And customer service?  One of the best.

Well, I agree with you, but I also think that DCM was a pork barrel type program and you must realize that people get upset when it is their pet program that gets cut.  Honestly, I think they could have picked a richer target to cut such as HUD, EPA, or any one of a number of bloated, worthless agencies.  The CMP was not a bad compromise all in all.  Nothing lasts forever, not even war socialism.  And frankly, Garands, M1 Carbines and 03A3s are nice, but they are antiques.  I only wish the M-16A1s were filling the racks in the CMP stores and that's our biggest problem here--no matter what else happens, the rifles sales program is doomed by politics unless a lot of things change in this country.  The racks in the stores are empty and that ought to tell you something.  Some day, the massive arms build up that was WWII will finally peter out.  Hell, I'm shocked that it lasted this long and not a little embarrassed--it was a huge mobilization, but it was incredibly wasteful as well.  Necessary? I guess so, it depends what books you read.  I am concerned that we beat Hitler only to become what we ourselves despised.

I stand 100% behind the ideals of citizen soldiers and teaching regular people marksmanship in the Swiss and early American colonial style.  But at the same time, I am 100% opposed to the military/industrial complex that feeds at the tax trough while failing to give those on the front lines the gear they need.  I'm also opposed to belligerent foreign policy that puts those men in harm's  way for political reasons that are no good for this country, but that's fodder for another discussion.
