hey guys, I've got a SA M1A thats not working.  Its like the bolts not going all the way back, like the mag or the next round is stoping it.I have to work the action on evey shot. I know the "gas switch" is open and I've tryed all kinds of ammo. I had the rifle for a long time and never had a problem. The last time I shot it it ran fine, that was in 2003,I just had it shiped to me (i'M IN THE ARMY) and it willn't cycling. any idea?

Did you break it down, totally clean it and regrease it after it's hibernation? Thats the first thing I would do if it had not been done already. Could be that it's all gummed up.

+1 on a full cleaning . Sounds like a gas piston is dirty .......

Be sure to clean the gas cylinder plug of carbon as well.

A big plus on what both of these gentlemen suggested.
Both the piston and cap can fill with carbon, really impairing the accuracy and reliability. Clean them until they are devoid of carbon. Also, you might take a look at the barrel gas vent into the gas cylinder. Sometimes they can also plug up.

Check the upper rear portion of your bolt for scratches or drag marks. There is a roll pin that holds the clip guide on, sometimes they can work down far enough to drag on the bolt slowing it down enough to cause feeding problems. You may or may not be able to feel the drag during manual operation of the bolt. Other than that, clean and check your gas system components.
