Finally got a chance to take the 2 CMP garands I got last fall to the range. Only had time for the 25 yard range, cause I did some pistol shooting too.
Anyway, the rifle that has a badly worn muzzle (swallows the bullet almost to the case mouth) partially ejected the clip after 4 rounds, and did the 7 round ejection a couple of times, so I guess I'll have to ask CMP for a replacment latch and spring.

The other rifle was in better shape, and definitely shows promise after a rough start. At first, it would only shoot the first round. The trigger would not come forward enough after the shot for the next round. Did this 3 times, and couldn't see anything wrong with the trigger group. Put it aside to shoot the other garand, then came back to try it again. Worked perfectly, and the groupings show promise to be a good shooter at 100 yards. Dunnno what happened, but I did notice that despite having the rifles all winter, I managed to somehow forget to grease them properly!

What grade(s) did you purchase?

The early ejection is no problem to fix.  No need to bother CMP for a replacement.  Simply stretch the clip latch spring just a little bit.  That should solve it.  If it does not, you can get replacements for cheap.

Both are field grades.

Thanks for the tip about the spring, I will give that a try.

A new clip ejector spring measures 5/8" long.

that stretch of the spring will get you through the day but you'll be greatly served by ordering an extra power clip latch spring from fulton armory.  A standard replacement spring will work fine too but they say that extra power one is the stuff!  Replacing a worn clip latch spring will fix a lot of premature clip ejection problems.

A stretched spring will go back to it's shrunken size again.  it's simply worn out.
