I got some questions here from a buddy of mine who just purchased some new parts for his Polytech.

1.What is the best way to determine headspace for polytech M14s?

2. What is the best ammo to fire from Polytech M14s for non competition
shooting?

Thanks in advance.

The easiest way it to take it to a gunsmith and have him check it with a set of 7.62 NATO headspace guages.  There is a very small but noticable size difference between 7.62 NATO & .308 Winchester, so be sure your gunsmith uses the right guage for the job.

You might also try a local rifle club, as many have a "gun guru" for setting up rifles and the M-14 / M-1A / M-14S is a pretty well known and understood gun.

I have had good results with MilSpec 7.62 ammo - South African most recently.

If your headspace has gone long on your rifle, you can send it to WARBIRD for a U.S.G.I. Bolt Coversion and refinsh.  His work is excellent!
