| I don't care for it personally unless it was an M1C or M1D. However, if you don't have to drill holes in the reciever or anything, it shouldn't be a big deal. You could always take the mount off and have it in original form. Even drilling holes in the barrel would be no big deal, as barrels need replaced eventually anyway. Just as long as it's not a collectible, rare barrel, you should be good to go. |
think again.... how would he load it? for a garand you need a scope with MUCHO eye relief, or a side mount. personally i think it's a waste of time/money to do something like that to a garand. they never were supposed to be tacti-cool, and rail mounted scopes/aimpoints/lights/lasers/NGV/coffee makers just look silly on there. take that $130 and start a fund saving up for a 18" M1A. It will do a lot more of what you want it to do, and look better (or more in character) in the long run. |
| I don't know, I took mine hunting last year, and really would've liked something like that with an optic on it. Yet I love the way the garand handles. Of course, that'll screw that up. But I say do it if it doesn't hurt anything. It can always be put back to normal. It is a little bubba ish, but you know, sometimes it's fun to do stuff like that. It would also help you see how accurate it really is with a scope on there. |
OK, I am not going to send it in for a tanker, but the scope and mount don't alter the rifle in any way. |

Don't tankerize a complete Garand, use one of the re-parked receivers or a non-matching woodless dane. I'm pretty sure the scout mount doesn't do any permanent harm, so go for it. You might want to go all the way and get a synthetic stock and keep all 3 wood stock parts together in a safe place for when you decide to convert back to standard issue. |
