I'm looking for advice on my first M1A. The primary use will be plinking, and  to dispatch critters around the ranch, I really like the looks of the Socom II.  Which M1A will suit my needs the best?

18" Scout Squad or Bush rifle.

Those are good because you could put a scout scope or reddot scope.

It makes more sense to go with the 18" barrel, why would you steer away from the socom II, barrel length?

Diminished ballistics and the proprietary muzzle brake on the 16" barrel are not for me.

I have shot and did like the SOCOM, but I prefer the increased MV and ability to use a
flash suppressor on the 18.0” barrel. I also like the fact that 18.0” upgrade barrels are
available, some are chrome lined. I don’t think any upgrade barrels are available in 16”.

I'm $ure you could have a 16" upgrade barrel custom made, but you can't yet escape the
proprietary muzzle brake. BTW, the muzzle brake works very well ~ rule of two's
