Ive been hearing of a lot of problems with current M1A's. Often the extractor flying out,or failing or bolt issues. The common answer seems to be to install USGI parts. Has anyone had any issues with an M1A with USGI parts ? Any problems with mixing a new gun with old USGI parts? What parts should be USGI? Bolt , op rod, trigger group, barrel? |
By M1A, I assume you're talking about Springfield Armory. With the numbers they produce those that have problems are very small. USGI parts don't really give any problems at all which is why it's recommended in the end. There isn't a problem mixing USGI parts in new guns, unless you have a Taiwanese M-14, which I heard may not perfectly fit on some occasions. Operating Rod & guide, trigger group, gas cyllinder, extractor are good parts to replace. Keep your eyes open for TRW USGI parts, as I hear they were just about the only manufacturers who perfected their production of the M-14. Bolts require head-spacing when you install new ones, so remember that. I'll tell you what everyone else told me. Dont replace anything until it breaks. |
