KIDGLOCK, your order shipped today. Everyone with a last name starting with letters from A to G had their order shipped today. As I posted elsewhere, one gentleman did not have his magazines accounted for. It was an unfortunate oversight on the part of glockshot and I. I caught this error yesterday as I was verifying mailing addresses while filling out the shipping labels. The gentleman will receive all of his money back plus a complimentary M14 Rifle Library CD. I regret this error but by the time it was caught the magazines had been shipped from CMI to me. CMI sent exactly what we had ordered and paid for, 1,092. So, there were no extras. All of the orders are boxed now. I'll get to the Post Office on Monday and send out some more. The last of them will go out on Tuesday or Wednesday. |

i was just looking at thier web page and did not see any prices or way to order mags from them. What is up with that? HOw did you guys order yours. I assume a quantity that large you called in for a discount on a group buy. Does anyone know how much they are or ballpark range? Also how do you order? are they a large quantity order fullfillment only company or do they do small order/ civilian orders as well? i just cant figure out how to order from them. I guess i doesnt matter since Different has all of the mags anyway. You is one lucky SOB different. I must have felt great opening all those boxes, i can only imagine. |

We did a large group buy from m-14forum.com. The info and prices were posted, but keep in mind, that is bulk price, for over 500. They usually don't sell to individuals, minimum order is either 25 or 50, IIRC, and the price is much higher for less than 500. We ordered over 1000, so we got very nice prices :) Not sure when the next group buy is, but from helping Different yesterday, its a lot of work! Making sure the right # of mags in the right boxes, making sure everyone has a copy of the letter with the certification, Cd's for those who had more than 10 mags, etc. Then the trip to the Post Office....they LOVED it when we came in with 40 boxes around 1120 am , all with deliveryt confirmation. As for the quality, I had trouble telling my BRW S-1's from the CMI. Welds are very nice, and they look exactly like the brw's i have. Followers are nice and smooth and work smoothly, too. I may get to try them out on Monday! I took several pictures, I will try to get them up later today. |
| I know it is not something you two would probably want to do again too soon. I know it can be a bitch making sure everyone gets the right amount of mags and they get thier certificates. It can also be a bitch when you do a group buy making sure you do not get screwed. Making sure you get enough money to do the shipping, boxes, delivery confirm., tape, etc. I do not know about you guys but one or two would not be bad but i would gather to assume there where quite a few individuals involved in this buy and that would add of fast if it wasn't taken care of. I guess i will have to call them and see what the price point is for the customer who doesnt get the arsenal discount. |

Thanks to one of my team mates, I found a Post Office that was open this morning. So, another batch of orders went out this morning. We were also able to resolve the matter for the one error for orders made on our part. The gentleman is satisfied with the outcome. The last batch will go out tomorrow morning. |
|
No problem. We had two people count the magazines for each order as they were packaged. Taz575 and a fellow member from my gun club for all but the last twenty-five boxes. Mrs. Different and I counted the magazines for each order for the last twenty-five boxes. All orders are going USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. Along with the box filler, we taped both ends of each box just to make sure they stayed in the boxes enroute. |
True, but being the lowest bidder isn't always a bad thing. No one has ever made a M14 rifle cheaper than TRW in the United States. I imagine the Taiwanese and Chinese M14 rifles were less expensive to manufacture but I have no cost data. The range reports soon to follow will give us some good information. |
| It looks like I will get out tomorrow, so I will give a few some rifle time. I want to keep a few in wrap still, so I will prob take 2 or 3 of my 11 and try them out. Quality seems pretty much identical to my BRW's that I have. Nothing glaringly obvious wrong, everything seems smooth. |
The lowest bidders typically undercut the competition (who make good products) by cutting corners. Historically, lowest bidder products are generally crap - there may be exceptions with certain reputable vendors. |
| We'll soon see the quality of these magazines, but I'm betting they will be fine. There were quite a few of us who bought them, not only because the price was good because of the large order, but because we done our homework and found out these were supposed to be very good magazines. I am not going to buy junk for my rifles, that would be futile. Reports will be out soon, maybe you will change your tune. |
I have 3 of there 10 rd mags , damn fine . Welds are great on the spine and front tab . Cant tell'm apart t from color from BRW's . They have been run through a TRW M14 (10 rds is a big tease) not one MALF. |
Yes, but for government contracts, low bid means the company that can provide a producst that meets all the specs at the lowest cost. So any company that qualifies for the bidding has promised to provide the product that meets gov specs. Thats how its supposed to work anyway. |
They don't all meet the spec, which is the problem. Nothing is in place to mandate random testing for compliance with the spec unless it was specifically written in the contract. Then you have to watch out for vendors sending you "special" items that were made to spec or exceeds the spec so that it passes the testing. You could have two companies making a product. One is damn near bulletproof and costs 50 cents more than the lowest bidder, which is known to be crap. Guess what will be procured? The 50 cent cheaper POS item because it was the lowest bidder. |
|
Looks like I'll have to break out my full auto M1A to do some testing on CMI magazines. After all, USGI drawing 7790183 Magazine Assembly requires that "each magazine assembly shall be capable of withstanding a 20 round function firing test when fired in the M14A1 rifle without malfunction attributable to the magazine." |
|
Range report request! Can't get into M14forums, knowing the answer may be there, but how do the new CMI M14 magazines look / compare with respect to the usual authenticity tests; re: mag spring angle, number and position of welds, follower construction / number and location of welds, markings (CMI?), lube on mag springs, etc. . |
| elvis_is_dead at m14forum.com is the leading expert on M14 magazines AFAIK. In his opinion, the CMI and BRW S-1 magazines are so similar in construction that he wonders if CMI bought the machinery from BRW. BRW ended M14 magazine production in 1980 AFAIK. CMI got their first magazine contract in 1990-91. |
| The group buy price was $20.00 per magazine + $0.15 for each magazine to be shipped from CMI to me + USPS Priority Mail postage with Delivery Confirmation from me to the buyer. glockshot, Taz575, Mrs. Different, another gentleman and myself donated the labor and time. |

65 rounds of SA surp, and FNM Surp through 1 mag (time constraints), no problems whatsoever!!! Very smooth feeding, locked into the rifle nicely, held the rounds tight, no nose dives, felt nicer than my BRW's that I have. Springs are nice and tight, but the follower moves very smoothly. These mags look almost exactly the same as my USGI ones, I had to look for the BRW or KMT on the mags to tell the difference when I put them in a pile and mixed them up. Oh, my dad likes my M1A now...he was scared of it before
|
That is it. Passed your and eid's tests? I officially need some.

I received my 20 mags and they are exactly as advertised. Only slight down side is that they included no markings, which we knew when ordering. We did however get certs with the mags. Just a point about lowest bidders - some of you are correct that most government contracts are won by the lowest bidder but this in no way equals the lowest quality since all products must be made to the Mil specifications. In other words the highest & lowest bidder's product should be exactly the same. If the highest bidder for example used better raw materials which were not call for in the specification, they would be rejected. For those of you who have ever worked with or ever read a Mil specification you would understand that other than outright fraud the only difference between bidders is who will live with the lowest profits, not whose product is better. |
