The real trick is to avoid having to leave your house at all. Get one far enough out of town that you don't have to run. Then, get your house setup for survival. I mean, really, is there any place you could go that is likely to enhance your survival versus a well prepared home? Food: How much canned goods can you stock? Water: How about a house size water filter, and a well. Defense: You can setup your house to be more easily defensible. Stock sand bags. Construct your home in a semi-underground fashion. You can even successully hide the very location of your home if you are clever. Tip: That big road leading up to the house is expensive, and points out just where you are. Why not park your cars at an outbuilding and travel to your house from there. Shelter: We won't even talk about that. Nuclear war: Basic preparations can help you survive fallout. You would be amazed at what a basement can do. However, if you have to bug out, figure out how much you can carry the only way you can: By doing it. Fill up a pack, figure your daily walk, and do it. If you can't make it, either train up or cut down. Also, watch your boots. Heavy or uncomfortable ones will KILL you. Superfeet insoles really help, too. |
