From the GD Surplus .308/7.62 ammo shortage? Alledgedly SA is going to be gone by the end of the summer. Is it time to start looking at Wolf? |
|
I had heard that too and asked Steve from Aim Surplus that question. Here is the cut and paste....short and to the point Thanks Steve, I appreciate it! One other question, heard a rumor that the SA308 is on track to dry up late this summer, any truth to that? Steve Francis to me More options May 9 (22 hours ago) I think it will be here through the summer just not as plentiful as it was. Thanks steve So, I'm probably safe to assume the price will be going up sometime soon

Yeah, I'd love to be in NY for that, on a 980rd box from Aim to me was estimated at $52!!!!! Lucky for me, a local shop has an account with AIM and they get a discount. I went down and bought 8 battle packs from the local shop and it saved me $40 over what I would have paid with shipping thru AIM had I bought myself

That's all I do. Ran on 140-round battle pack of Aussie through my M1A out of the box to ensure reliability and make sure I had no warranty issues right-away. Ever since then it's been match reloads only through the M1A. Not that the surplus stuff is hard on a rifle or anything, but I didn't buy an M1A to plink or be happy with minute-of-pie-plate accuray. For that, I'd have bought an SKS, AK, FAL, or H&K91. I bought the M1A to have a semi-auto capable of MOA or better. So why not use factory match or good reloads for that? I certainly see the value of stockpiling surplus. And for the odd time out at the range when you're just throwing lead for fun. But usually when I go to the range I have a purpose and want to work on my accuracy, and/or my platform. For that, surplus just isn't good enough. I want range, consistency, and boat tails. |
From where? I don't think that anyone over there is using 308 ammo and the US won;t surplus their ammo to their citizens. There may be plenty of components available for the reloader. |
All of the Allied participants are using 7.62N I doubt that milsurp 308 will ever be plentiful again. UN bull$hit will see to that. |

I'd say it is running out for sure, but I did manage to score 400 rds. of linked Port. .308 this weekend for a *decent* (read: OK but not great) price ($44.99 each at Dunhams). Hopefully those nations with .308 LMGs (like the Portuguese) would surplus it out to us after a time. Providing the UN doesn't screw it up for us. |
