I recently purchased 480 rounds of Lake City 74 headstamped M2 ball, and went to the range on Sunday, 6 clips shot with 5 duds.  Any other  feedback on the Talon packaged 30-06 ammo from CMP?  I waas hoping for some safe, clean surefire ammo for my Garands but now I am not so sure, at least the Korean PS lot number ammo went bang everytime! Had one split case with the Korean M2,  it was lot number PS-2-152 which I later found out was very BAD to shoot!

WARNING

All ammunition is subject to deterioration over time. Customers should expect that 5% to 15% of the cartridges in any can may exhibit some stages of discoloration or corrosion or other abnormalities. As with any surplus ammunition, each and every round should be carefully checked before use. Deformed or otherwise suspect rounds should not be fired.

These cartridges are aged surplus military ammunition. This ammunition is NOT newly-manufactured, and is sold STRICTLY IN “AS IS” CONDITION, with no warranty expressed or implied.

Doesn't really say anything about non-functioning ammo though.

I just ordered a can of the Greek M2. It looks great. Hopefully I'll take a trip to the range later this week to see how it shoots.

Sounds like a gun problem.  I'd have the headspace checked and while you're at it, clean the bolt out really good.

Are you sure about that?

Out of the 960 we got, one didn't go boom.  The first time.  2nd time's a charm.

I'd say it might be a gun problem.

I thought maybe a firing pin problem also, but rounds have nice dimple on t he primers, tried several rounds twice, still no go, next time out will run some through my Winchester instead of the Springfield and see what happens.

I have used the LC M2 and the Greek HXP Ball and not had a problem with either.

Granted, I've only gone through maybe 1,000 rounds of CMP M2, but I've never had a misfire.
