Fulton Armory has the right tool. I just got one from them two weeks ago to take my flash hider off. Check out www.fulton-armory.com. They have everything you need for M1A's.

Look at the base of the front sight. You see a small set screw. Its really small. I had my M1A for like 3 years before I noticed it. You'll need a 1/16 inch hex head wrench to remove it.

When you reassemble, remember that that set screw has to go down in between two of the paraphets (?) that give the castle nut the castle look.

Thank you also.  I take the rifle out and started looking when I found it.  I feel like an dummy.  I took it out and removed my flash compressor and check the muzzle with an bullet.  I bought an Armscorp M14 with NM barrel, front and rear sight.  An trigger job and an beat up stock that I replace with an Body stock for $535.00
