I would like to buy an m1a, but i would just like the basics with no barrel.  I also plan on building up from that.  I am starting to save the cash now and plan on paying in cash.  I would really like suggestions or IMs from people that can help

To build an M1A from a kit is starting to get really expensive. USGI kits are getting scarce and so are demanding a premium. But it can be done.

LRB makes a forged receiver. Those who have them give them a top rating for quality. But the receiver is kinda' pricey. See the link provided in the next post for an idea of just how pricey.

Springfield Armory - cast receiver. I have two and have had no problems with either one. Both are factory rifles though, no kit builds. There is nothing wrong with cast receivers.

Fulton Armory - cast receiver.

Armscorp - cast receiver.

Chinese receivers are also forged and make good starting points for a build.

If you are on a budget, can I suggest that you consider a used rifle as a starting point? An older Springfield will probably have a lot of USGI parts already. And it just may be all the rifle you need, for now at least.
