| I have a polytec with a GI bolt. I bought it used and do not know who fit the bolt. I have been using Israli ammo with no problems. Yesterday the extractor came out of the bolt while firing. The extractor layed on the bench. All of the springs and the ejector were still in the bolt. The fired case was in the chamber and easily came out of the chamber. I reassembled the bolt with out the springs and it appeared that the ejector rod that holds it in place extends through the bottom of the bolt and protrudes past the bottom of the bolt. There are wear marks on the bolt in this area so I assumed the bolt rides on the hammer in this area. I ground down the pin and made it flush with the bolt and reassembled it but have not had a chance to test fire it yet. Did I find the problem or should I look to other causes? The only other problem I had was with the GI operating rod jumped off the bolt once but it appeared the scope mounting bolt was to long and was hitting the bolt. I shorten it too and the problem went away. I have not checked the headspace yet because I have to borrow the gauges but that is next. |
