the SA GEN 3 scope mount? Ive hear bad things about it lately- i thought it was the industry standard? Anybody have usefull mods for it? I am building an M1A and have gotten this mount for my leupold, do I need to scrap it and spend more?

Sell it and buy a Smith Enterprise mount with Picitinney rail. My friend tried the 3rd. Gen from Springfield and it would work loose. It also looks "cheap" compared to the Smith mount.

There have been a few and I say few that have had success with the SA 3rd Gen Mount. One had even gone to the point of highly modifing/re working the mount and swore by it.

Myself, I have the Smith mount and have never had a problem.

I would cut my losses as well and sell the SA mount and upgrade to a Smith, Sadlak, ARMS #18 or at the least a Leatherwood.

Check a post below where Different posted a few links..

I find that it doesn't seem to be rock solid, and that it places the optic very high off the receiver.  Definately need a cheek rest for a scope with the SA, whilst my ARMS has the rail at the iron sight plane.
