I just got a Service Grade Springfield from the CMP, I got a chance to shoot it this past weekend and I have a problem. I setup at 200 yards using a SR target, with the elevation knob turned all the way down, the bullets are impacting 10 to 12" above center mass on the target. I was using sandbags for support and 150 grain ammo. This my first M1 so I don't have much experience with them, but do they have different styles of front sights, or I am wondering if it might have been filed down? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Goose |

Your front sight could be too short. I have seen several CMP Garands that have the front sight filed down. A new front sight should cure the problem. Call the CMP and they will send you a new one. Also make sure your gas cylinder is not putting pressure on your upper handguard. This will cause severe zeroing problems. The upper handguard should be just slightly loose. |

Bottom the aperture out, then go 8 clicks up. That seems to the the starting point for 200 yards. Here's the rest: www.fulton-armory.com/tea/sighting.htm |

"Bottom the aperture out, then go 8 clicks up. That seems to the the starting point for 200 yards". If you would bother to read his post he says he is still shooting HIGH at 200 yards with the rear sight all the way DOWN. If he goes 8 clicks up that will put him 16 inches higher than he already is. He needs a taller front sight or he has a stock or handguard problem that is putting pressure on the barrel. |
