Let me start off I'm new to shooting much.  I want a SOCOM but was wondering about the mount for the scope, it doesn't effect accuracy mounting to the barrel?

In theory, yes but you'd have to heat up the barrel pretty good - and probably not a major issue for the type of ranges the SOCOM was designed for.

Not a big fan of the mount ...it being aluminum and the barrel steel.  Rooster33 makes a steel mount similar to that which is on the socom.  The socom is a nice rifle but I like the scout better.

Consider doing as SuperRage has done and put your rifle (Scout/SOCOM) in a SAGE stock.

This will eliminate heat issues and is very flexable.

I have my Scout in a SAGE and love it.

I removed my Scout mount and mounted an Arms #18 on mine.

The factory Scout mount, in my opinion, is shitty.  It heats up really badly with prolonged firing.  I also don't like tightening screws into aluminum.

not to hijack but was just curious if the arms #18 causes shells to eject differently?

Not that I have noticed.

Am I the only person that just cringes everytime they see that SAGE stock???  Ugh...ugliest lookin' thing I've seen in a long time.  Guess I'm just old fashioned, I like the standard stocks.

It looks ok.  It looks bulky and heavy.

I like the sage; but I can almost buy a base model M1A for just what the sage stock costs.

I wouldn't mind dropping a SOCOM into a SAGE - I think they look made for it - except I'm not gonna invest that kind of cash until they do something about that nasty gap between the pistol grip and trigger guard...what were they thinking?

This should have been designed for a proper fit with a SAW grip, IMHO.  I know there are likely challenges with disassembly to overcome, but it should be easier for someone who makes them to figure out than for someone who buys them to try to cobble together.

For you that have one - does the cheek piece offer enough rise to give you a good line of sight thru the EOTech?

The gap between the pistol grip and the trigger guard is to allow the trigger guard to open to disassemble the rifle.
