| I'd like to get into the M1A as I really cant get into my FAL. Here's the problem. I want a short rifle, but need 16" at the threads so I can attatch a suppressor later. Is the SOCOM too short for that? Should I be looking at a bush rifle? Are there reliability issues with the shorter rifles? I had an old Poly tech that was a good shooter and nice handling rifle until a KB ( in 92 could have been ammo related?)Back when they had heat treat problems the smith that fixed it put in a GI bolt but said the receiver was a bit out of shape so I sold it off. I like the platform but want a good solid american rifle and the suppressor. Which particular rifle will fill the bill? |
I like "fugly" guns and pretty women. It is a real shooter. When I went from the OEM fiberglass stock to glass bedded in walnut my group size was cut in half. When I went from my bedded walnut stock to the SAGE my group size was cut more than in half again. Now I can put rounds through the same hole with my EOTech or irons from a bench with bags @ 200 yards. Better than I expected. I also prefer the look of walnut and steel - my walnut stock is in the safe ready for a future build. I pull it out and rub some more tongue oil on it every now and then. |
Would have to say bush or scout model. SOCOM won't do it for you because they monkeyed around with the muzzle break by incorporating it into the gas lock. The muzzle threads are different as well so only there muzzle break threads on it. I traded off my socom for a scout and added on the smith ghost ring hk type front sight/ gas lock combo and a smith vortex direct connect hider. http://www.smithenterprise.com/ |
