I have a Springfield Garand that I put together with a kit and a FAC barreled receiver. It looks and functions okay but the op rod jumps out of the groove on the side of the receiver for some reason. Anybody ever seen this problem?

If your op rod is from a kit it may be out of spec, specifically the lug that engages the receiver may be worn out. Also the book says to check your op rod spring for kinks.

Hope this helps.

Edited to add that you may not necessarily have to buy a new op rod. Reputable M-1 guys like Orion7, Fulton, etc will repair a worn op rod lug by adding weld metal and shaping it to the proper original shape.

I had the op rod on my T26E1 (7.62mm "tanker") repaired by the welding of some more material on the tab.

A fella by the name of Ivan did this for me at a nominal cost.  He left it oversized so I could hand fit it to my receiver from the drawings he included.  Works perfectly now.

I've lost his Email and full name and hope he reads this!

The sporstman's Guide has them  for 49.00, they say they are Remington made but mine came stamped SA    NM!

I'm looking for an adustable gas plug!

Thanks for the tip, Bobbyjack! I just received my op-rod from Sportsman's
Guide. It is marked with an "RA" where the drawing/serial number is, and has
a "NM" stamped near the handle. It fixed the problem I was having.

The op rod is in good condition although there is some discoloration on the flat
surface near the handle which is okay because this is a shooter, not a safe queen.

I also went ahead and bought one of their cast/forged trigger gaurds with the hole
for the winter trigger. It's a brand new unissued surplus part that came in it's original
sealed wrapper.

This M1 is shaping up into a nice rifle!
