After waiting patiently for 2 months for Springfield to fill my backordered bipod what arrives...A piece of Chinese CRAP the I could have bought anywhere at 1/2 the price...[rantoff].

Help...Where does the clamp go, on the barrel or on the gas tube?

Thanks in advance.

On the gas tube.

You can also use an M16A1 clothespin bipod on the M14 in the same place (gas tube) but it wiggles around a bit too much under recoil!

(edited to add) Put some tape or some kind of protection on the stock where the feet of the bipod fold up against it.  The feet will scratch the heck out of the stock.  It wouldn't be as big a deal on the USGI plastic stocks as they are thinner in the forend, and at $5 who cares.  On a wood stock though, if you don't do something, you'll get really deep gouges in the wood forearm.  You'll see what I mean when you get it on.

Thanks Ross...The bipod is so crappy I'm considering not using it at all.  It rattles, has frankenwelds and I noticed the potential for furniture damage which is why I asked for help.  I couldn't imagine it being designed that poorly...I guess I was wrong.

Put a piece of thin foam or tape on the gas tube so that doesn't get scratched up when the bipod clamps down. The legs will definately mess up your stock. That's why I got rid of mine real quick. You should be able to find a chinese copy for $40-$50.Real GI ones are $250 or so.

GG,

This is the Chinese copy...and it's Crap.  I'm going to look at some others (possibly a Harris or VersaPod) that won't trash my wood.

The M2 is also a way heavy bipod.  While it's truly a stout piece of kit, it really weighs the rifle down.  It's OK on the M14A1, where you're pretty much going to use it off the bipod, and not off-hand, I didn't even like it much on those.

A few years ago I saw some Marines with the M25 DMR down here and they had Harris bipods on theirs.  I think the Harris would be a better set-up overall.  It may break eaiser, but if you take care of the rifle, it should be OK.  Also the Harris is inexpensive enough that you can replace a damaged one easily.

Ross,

Did you see how the Harris was mounted?  I don't believe the typical AR15 (Harris # 5)mount won't work

Not specifically.  They were mounted on there with a sling swivel stud that was added to the stock.  The Harris just mounts onto that.  How exactly that was added, I don't know.  I don't know if it was a screw in type swivel, or if it was something more elaborate.  I was working and didn't have time to dick around, so I didn't see much more in the way of details.

Thanks anyway...

I may try the B-Square bi-pod like the ones that Cheaper then Dirt sells.

Before I go that route I'm going to try dipping the Chinese M-14 bi-pod in the liquid plastic that Lowes sells to insulate tools.  that should keep it from damaging the gas tube as well as the stock.  If it works I'll post the results.

Again, Thanks

personnaly, i had a harris bi-pod installed on my m1a. had a gunsmith or u can have springfield install a q-d stud in your stock, very happy with the bi pod setup. really like the harris cause its so light and compact. my standard m1a is already heavy enough as it is with a scope and mount dont need to add excees weight to the m1a. good luck!

Does that thing really say "Made in China?"  If so read on:
Dude!!!!  Send that crappy bipod back to Springfield...they will refund your money...do not forget to tell them how UNimpressed you are with their product.  You should NOT put up with that crap from them....everyone knows I don't.  I have made them fix every damn problem they have caused me and I don't let them (or anyone else) forget what I think of their rotten company ( this doesn't make me too popular but who knows, I could save some poor guy a lot of heartache).  Neither should you (or anyone else who gets scammed by these bums in the guise of gunmakers) take this kind of poor salesmanship.  When you do call the please do remember to treat the Customer Service girls politely, they are very, very nice ladies who really will try to help you as much as they can and it is NOT their fault that the company is run by what I consider to be a bunch of crooks.

When S.A. has returned the money they ripped off from you, buy a harris bipod and the machine threaded mount and install that in your gun...I have NOT been disapointed with that setup at all!!!

I sent my M1A back to Springfield to have a QD Stud installed, here are the results. Springfield paid for shipping both ways and this addition is covered under future warranties. My cost was $45.00, $15.00 for parts, $30.00 for labor

G.I. Brat...that is a REALLY nice lookin' rifle!!!!!!!!  I mounted my harris "swivel" in a similar way but I mounted the reinforcement INSIDE the stock and glassed it in with acra glass.  I wish I had a scanner at this time so I could post some picks of how I did it...it allowed me to also retain my standard sling mount, etc. and turned out really nicely.

Thanks...

The Bipod was definately made in China.  I expressed my displeasure and got return authorization.  They have it back by now.  Funny, it's the same EXACT bipod that Cheaper then Dirt sells for $39.95-SA wanted me to pay $109.00 A STUNNING TOTAL RIPOFF!

I guess it cost then 9 bucks and they somehow feel entitled to 100.00 PROFIT!

Tell me-how did you mount the Harris?  FYI, I have wooden furniture.
