I tried posting on the F1S board but it seems like a bit of a ghost town ever there.

I am looking to form 1 a sub gun can that would primarily be for a 9MM AR, but I want to accommodate up to 45ACP. I won’t plan on ever putting this on a pistol, so it will never get a recoil booster. My primary motivation is building something exactly the way I want it (and for fun), so if it costs as much as a commercial can that is okay.

This is what I am thinking so far -

8” 6065 Al tube, 1.5-1.6 OD
1.5-2” blast chamber
17-4 SS radial blast baffle and blast chamber spacer
7075 Al anodized radials for the rest of the baffles
Some type of end cap that will allow the use of a Griffin 3-lug adapter

Am I on the right track with this design ? Also, what thickness does my tube need to be?

I made a similar one using a gemtech trilug and an adapter ring that goes from gemtech/Griffin LIDs to Dcell sdtactical toob. Mines a 6" titanium toob and aluminum end cap. No baffles yet, sourcing some K's or radials.

Large blast chambers are for rifle rounds. On subsonic rounds a large blast chamber will contribute to first round pop. Pack that sucker as full of baffles as you can.

Ah, I did not know that. Thanks!

I guess I need to only make it large enough to take the recessed GA 3 lug adapter then.

I would have a minimum of about 1/2", from muzzle or muzzle device. You want to give the initial gas release some room to disperse, before it goes down the bore.

Is that what we're calling a parabolic frustum, this week?
Try to get at least 8 of them in the can.

I don't think a standard trilug is going to work on .45

Is this for semi auto only or going on full auto subgun as well?

What tools and skills do you have at your disposal?

I would put a 3lug adapter for shooting 9mm and switch it when I wanted to do a larger caliber. It will only be running semi auto unless Nolo succeeds in challenging Hughes.

Tools and skills are a drill press and knowing how to use it.

The Rugged Obsidian is pretty much the quietest reasonably sized (non-wipe) pistol can ever made, and here are the baffles it uses.

Double-ended cone baffles. Cool.

diverging-converging nozzles, yo.

Or mirrors.

Thinking I "should" have one Form1 can pre-41F, cost isn't particularly a concern, similar usage model. Would like to be able to run up to .45ACP out of subgun-type host (Uzi, MP5, MPX, AR15-type, Mac, etc).  99% certain to be semi-auto only, but would like to handle full-auto or bumpfire.

D-cell sized Ti tubes seem easily available, maybe not ideal for .45 caliber?

I am NOT mechanically inclined so pre-done parts are great (I can assemble stuff, not so good at machining stuff).

Any/all advice welcomed - should I eFile for a ".45 caliber" and "8-inch long" suppressor and figure the rest out later? Any recommended plans/build lists?

TIA!
