I have been looking for the stock for my project and wasn’t able to find one anywhere except Ruger’s webpage. I went ahead and placed a back order for one. I “need” it to go with my .22. Attached File |

It was easier than I expected. Clamped the barrel in a 20ton harbor freight press just enough to not turn and turned the action off. Though I just cut the barrel to 12.5" and moved the sight block back to in front of the gas block. No, Jim said it wasn’t necessary so i did not send the bolt. I trust that he knows what he’s doing. I went from 18” to just a hair under 12” |

Update on my SBR project- this is the build where I chopped it by hand, used an annular cutter to reduce the OD, and then threaded using a TAT tool. While doing this I found that Ruger had not exactly bored this barrel straight, the bore was very off center in the barrel. I cut it long enough that I can always go back and re-cut it a little shorter. No plans to use a can on this, so I just Rocksett the FH. I crowned it using brass round head screws and valve grinding compound (have done this twice on SBR’s, successfully both times). So what I found when shooting it: #1- absolutely no modification to the factory gas system was needed, it will run everything from full power 5.56 to weak PMC and mild reloads. Still flings the brass plenty far with all of them. Just must have been seriously over gassed to begin with. So this was a huge win. #2- it shoots decent groups, but the rear sight elevation ran out of adjustment and my front sight is not tall enough, despite using the correct Samson gas block front sight. I think it likely is due to the non-centered bore (thanks Ruger!). Actually Ruger rifles are apparently known for this problem when the barrels are cut down, so don’t be surprised if you see it on yours. I have been shimming up the Samson gas block sight using metal shims and longer screws, but still have not gotten it where it needs to be. When I finally get if good, I am going to look at how much higher I would need to make the front sight blade, and whether I want to do that, or just leave it shimmed up. I currently have washers between the sight and the lower gas block, probably will machine out a pair of steel or AL spacer blocks once I know how high it needs to be if I just keep it shimmed. #3- it is fun as hell! Makes a very handy sized weapon. I like it so much that I might have to do a real AC556 conversion on another when I upgrade my SOT/FFL. #4- have a new neighbor, he sent me a picture of his chopped down Mini with an extended FH pinned/welded. Only person I know in real life with a chopped Mini, and he is the new neighbor- we are gonna get along great! Ha ha! (I was worried we would get some Seattle/Portland/SF refugee leftist neighbor…) Anyhow - here is mine on an early outing at the range- what a blast! If you are on the fence about doing a project like this- just do it! Makes a basic Mini so much more useable! Attached File |

It looks good! On mine I had to file mine down (note on front - move the front sight the opposite the way you want the bullet to move) If you need some more height, I'd see if a good welder could tack on some height clean it up with a file. I cut mine and although not perfectly concentric I use a 30 cal can on mine and it had enough clearance -Nonetheless I rarely shoot it suppressed. These need an FRT invented : ) |

I got mine back from Jim this afternoon and I love it! I had it cut to 12.5”, it is just mocked up for now and I don’t have the optic mounted yet. Attached File |
