The only malfunction was occasionally getting rim lock in the mags but that’s a super easy fix to poke the rounds to reseat them.

It was absolutely hilarious to shoot suppressed but it had a weird 12” ish POI shift UP when adding the can.

The spec might be different in these .357 rifles, but the main receiver bolt torque in other M77 rifles is much much higher than what you are using. It’s not uncommon for them to be torqued low from the factory to keep the barrel free floating in the stock. If you can relieve the barrel channel and torque to spec there can sometimes be improved accuracy.

Economy of scale and inflation on top of a production run every 5+ years. I’m happy to pay it because I want one and they had one. The last run I saw was $900 or so back in 2015-16 ish.

Prices may drop when more are out, but it’s likely a limited 2-3000 gun run like normal.

Is Boyd’s the only option for wood stocks? Has anyone found other stocks or even chassis?

Ideally, I’d like a wood version of the polymer stock it comes with. A chassis would be cool too.

They aren't exactly common.  Boyds would likely be way cheaper and easier to deal with.  I know I'm looking at it myself, but set up the way I want is almost $350 shipped on top of having to pillar and glass bed it once I get it.

Sample size of one, but mines doing pretty damn well so far.  Some rimlock issues with the mags but I'm not 100% if it is ammo or magazine related yet as I was working through the last of my blazer aluminum 158gr SJHP last weekend.  We'll see if there's any difference with federal or norma brass this weekend.

Speaking of doing pretty well, this was a fairly consistent grouping with blazer aluminum at 50 despite ~5 mile an hour crosswinds and a pretty crappy bushnell scope.  Since my last grouping I did completely tear down the rifle, clean, and retorque the whole thing, so that might explain the tighter group.  I'm going to try it with quality ammo and see how it does.  Then shoot a bunch of suppressed 38 and laugh.

6/9/2024 6:34:07 PM EDT
[#19]
I'd say this is a pretty solid 20rd group at 100 with 158gr Norma SJHP.  Played with the screw tension a bit, but I know groups will tighten up once I get a new stock, pillar bed it, etc.

Don’t even need wadcutters. 158gr .38 special will usually be subsonic out of a 10”+ barrel. On these it’s pretty much guaranteed subsonic. I know in the old thread there were guys hand loading something like 340gr HCGC subs for hogs.

I love my old one's.  I have had decent luck with accuracy and no problems with function.  The 44 was my daughters first deer gun.  3" at 100 yds.

I do so wish they would bring back the Deerfield carbine.  I would love to pick one up.  I think a 357 version would be way cool also (although I don't see it being financially viable).

It may be possible, I wrote it down. It only adds 4 rounds in .357 (9 over 5) and it's going to look a little ugly under the classic lines of the Ruger 77, but hopefully it will attach using the old latch, and be removable in seconds. However, do you think anyone would actually buy it ? We have to purchase the test gun and library magazines for the project. The profit from selling the adapters has to offset the cost of these materials.

New models announced a few minutes ago.

The Ruger® 77/357™ chambered in the venerable .357 Magnum is now available in two new configurations! The first features a brushed stainless finish paired with a synthetic stock featuring a Desolve Bare Reduced camo pattern. The second is made of alloy steel with a blued finish and Kryptek Obskura Nox camo pattern stock.

Wood makes ARs look better too.  If the SP1 had shipped with wood furniture it might have had a better reception early on.

I wish the had a stock system for that with a spacer system.  LOP available 12.5 to 14.25”.  Usually when they add something like that the just add length and forget the youth length which imho is asinine.

I like the gun but 1200 and hit and miss accuracy record is a bit off putting.  That’s an expensive gamble.

If I did buy one I’d saw a about 3/4” off the butt.  It does look like they have a short parallel section made to allow that.

I like the looks of the blued but black nitride would be better at that price.

I am all in on .357 magnums at my house but a 9mm carbine would be a fun toy especially suppressed.
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

The new run is $900 or so a lot of places that I'm looking.  Hurts that I paid $1400 this spring for one with the big hump for threading though.

I walked into my local gun store friday and they know I like 357/44 rifles and have been giving one of the guys a hard time telling him he needs to take a henry model x 357 in on trade so I can buy it for a good price (as opposed to buying new).  We have also off and on talked about my 77/44 and how I would like to find one of the rare blued ones.
Anyways, I walk in and he says have you seen the new 77/357's? I said do you have one?
He hands me the stainless. I said do you have the blued model?
He checks and sure enough, he does.

I got to put hands on one. I was curious about the bluing as I am not sure if it was gloss or matte, as you could not tell from the stock pictures.
It is kinda half way between. Not 100% high gloss, but not matte.
Fit and finish were good. I hated the cheap plastic stock. Bolt handle sticks out like a sore thumb being shiny ss on a blued gun.
Their price is $1039.
Seems gunbroker has them for $950, but every time you buy from gunbroker, count on adding another $100 to the price after taxes, fees (GB and CC) and shipping.
However with our crappy 9.5-10% local sales tax, I would be paying almost $100 in tax buying it local.
I found one place called tombstone tactical through the search engine gun.deals and they list it for $888, but you have to create a account to get a shipping and tax estimate. I do not want to give them all my info just to price check.
I use a different shop for transfers as the one above charges $50 transfers, while the other shop only charges $25.

I want one as I have been wanting to put a can on one and make me some subsonic loads.
Just do not really want to spend the money right now....

My local gun store got some of the new models.
I was able to get my hands on one of the blued ones.
Stock is fugly and I hate it, but the bluing is great. Not complete high gloss, but not matte.
Still annoys me the bolt handle and rear shroud are stainless.
They had them priced for $1039.
I stewed on it for a week and went back thursday and they sold it to me for $980 after I told them they were on gunbroker for $930. Add fees and shipping, and I got it cheaper at my local store.

I get it home and take it apart. I then take apart my 1997 vintage 77/44 and compare.
The receivers are identical as well as the bolts and all related parts with the exception of the "breech blocks" which is what they call the front half of the bolt.
The new blued 77/357 dropped right into the walnut 77/44 stock, fit perfectly and looked great!
I searched high and low for a 77/44 stock and there are none to be had. Everywhere is out of stock and no backorders.
I called ruger and asked them about buying a stock. They said they needed a SN first before they would sell me any parts.
Luckily I have a 77/44, so I get the SN from it and they said the stocks are factory fit. I said I could fit it myself, if they would sell it to me.
She said that there would be no returns on the stock and it would be noted on the invoice, and I said that is fine.
She said they do not have any and would "have to make one".
I will get a email once it ships. I forgot to ask about a time frame. Price was $238.

I am also ordering a 3-9x40 scope for it, so once that gets here and I shoot it, I will start a thread.

Not going to lie, I'm annoyed that I paid $1400 on the last run and the new one is nicer and less expensive.  Guess I'll just have to get both.
