Can confirm, Haley/IWC does not fit, nor does the factory surefire RM45.

As I said before, the Ultimak rail height is out of spec and is virtually worthless for anything other than mounting a top rail optic.

This discussion about the Ultimak rail is moot, as most experienced Mini users mount short Pic rails to the sides (and perhaps bottom) of the fore end of the stock.

Doing so is often at significantly less cost than buying an offset mount from a high-end mfr.

There is often more one way to skin a cat, some of them being at far less cost than others.

Why is it that everytime you defend your position you have to mention a faceless consensus of other "experienced users".  There is no consensus that I am aware of and your posts are full of "appeal to authority" fallacies.  If you have opinion and the facts to support it then present them and let others decide.

It's apparent that you fancy yourself an expert on the platform, but based on what I have read of your content, your "expertise" is based solely on the fact that you have owned one for several decades and associate with other owners on a hobbyist forum.  In that regard, it makes your opinion no more valuable than my own or any other random internet stranger, so stop trying to sell it as something more.

Telling people to do things your way because "that's how experienced users" do it, absolutely has no place in a tech forum.

The "Experienced Users" to whom I often refer are Mini users, some them for decades, and most of whom have gone through almost every possible "Mod" and "Tweak" as far as the Mini-14/-30 is concerned.  I consider them honest and trustworthy, and in some cases, true experts.  Most of them have independently found that some mods done to the Mini-14/-30 are worth doing, and some are not, personal opinions varying, of course. The fact that there is a "general consensus" about such mods, reached independently, tells me that they just might be onto something.

I don't often cite their screen names here on Arfcom because I don't have their permission to include them in discussions on a forum which has historically had a strong bias against the Mini-14/-30.  I don't know if they are Members here, and even if so, I doubt they want to get involved with defending their positions here.

PRYDE, it seems that there is something about my posts that rankles you.  I regret that.

I think he got unlucky with that rifle?

Or maybe didn’t torque everything correctly when he put it back together?

Isn’t that the guy who used to be 87gn when he was a regular here?

Sample of one, but off the rack rifle, match ammo shooting 2.0 MOA groups - and 6.0 MOA groups.  Seemingly the AccuStrut is still needed.

His videos don't strike me as someone who would not torque the gas block screws correctly.  I like the Mini-14 for its looks & history, but it's a hard no-go when I can build 3x AR-15s for the same price and get better accuracy w/ cheaper mags and a much larger aftermarket.  Maybe a cheap one will fall in my lap someday and I'll install the stripper clip guide, AccuStrut, & a bayonet lug.

There is no general consensus other than the one you have created in your head.  You obviously have not tried almost every mod or tweak as you claim as evidenced by your self admitted erroneous claims you posted about the hannibal rail.

What rankles me is that you self-style yourself an expert but all you do is post misinformation and make false appeals to authority.

I bought a used one a few years back. Shot about like a typical AR. I liked it. Traded it for a Ruger Scout Rifle. Maybe I got lucky with that one, wish I still had it.

My dad had one when I was a kid that wasn’t accurate for shit.

You help me make my point.  I specifically stated that I had not handled the Samson scout rail in my posts above, hence my errors.  Once I realized I was wrong, I went to some pains to revise my posts so that others would not be influenced by my admitted mistake.

I get the impression that there is no pleasing you, so I will give up trying.  Your comments towards me (mostly personal attacks) are not the sort of helpful, informative comments sought in Tech Forums and also needless thread diversions.  Even my comments made in self-defense are thread diversions of a sort.

I suggest the "Ignore" button again.

Whether Luckygunner has ever had any dealings with the gas block and its securing screws is doubtful, and an open question.  He did not mention doing so in the vid FWTW.

There has been some useful experimentation done as regards the torque value applied to the gas block screws that indicates that a torque value considerably different from the torque value specified by Ruger can enhance accuracy.  Simple user-done mod understood by "experienced users".

No expert, but I have reason to believe that the Ultimak Scout rail sacrifices some height of the rail in exchange for an overall lower sighting platform.  This lower sighting platform is essential to obtaining a good, natural, and quick cheek weld; even 1/4" too high is too much.  This "sacrifice" in height might explain why some offset accessory mounts don't play well with the Ultimak.  It >>may<< be that the "higher" Amega Ranges Scout rail for the Mini does not suffer from this issue, IDK. Way back when, I returned my Amega Ranges Mini Scout rail because I saw that it was too high.  YMMV, and no criticism of the quality of the product.  Can't speak as to the Samson Scout rail, since I've yet to personally examine one.

In my personal experience it is FAR, repeat FAR more useful to be able to obtain a good, quick, and natural cheek weld in conjunction with optics/iron sights.  "Exactly" how accessories are mounted, so long as the accessories are easily useable, is a separate issue.  Having the Scout rail surface as low in relation to the bore of the rifle as physically possible is critical.   Even 1/4" too high is too high.

Many accessory mounting options available, and many different types of accessory mounts abound.

In any event, user can install inexpensive pic rails onto sides of the Mini fore-end, allowing a very wide choice of fore end mounted accessories compared to items that must be mounted on the top rail surface.  Much the same as done with many ARs.  It's nice to have choices.

Disclaimer: No financial interest.

Now that all the rage is the chin weld to use NODs through the red dot since even goat herders can spot IR emissions w/ their phones, maybe rail height isn't as critical?

Rail (and optics) height is always critical to obtaining instant and comfortable cheek weld.  Always platform related; often optics related.

IMHO, there is no substitute for an instant and comfortable cheek weld no matter what the sighting system.

It's a fact that most modern optics have been developed with the AR platform in mind, for widest possible sales.

Users of different platforms usually have a much harder time of interfacing modern optics with non-AR platforms.

Sometimes it can be done.

I can confirm that the Arisaka Scout offset mount does fit the Ultimak with no issues.
