Anyone actually seen one yet? I am amused by the concept, but it looks like it may have a few shortcomings:
1. It must be a LOT wider than a lever-action, especially with that rotary mag.
2. The sights are typical, "we don't expect anyone to actually shoot irons anymore" style.
3. Capacity - 5 rounds makes some sense in some states, but the lever guns all hold more anyway.
4. Cost - the only one on gunbroker is a pretty penny.
5. Stock - I really like wood stocks on bolt guns, especially if they aren't supposed to be "tacticool"

But, it looks cool to play with.

I have a 77/44 and really like it.  Great 100 yd and less deer gun in the piney woods for my daughter.  She can centerpunch a 2 liter coke bottle at 100 yds, no problem.  I think the 357 would be another great kids gun.

Wow this is the first I've heard of this model but it sounds plausible.  Still though, I'll stick with my Marlin in .357, much slimmer and holds more rounds anyway.

If the retail would come in closer to $600 I'd be game .

The 5 rd mag would be of great benefit if you were carrying different loads for different purposes .

Compared to a lever it potentially could have a better balance , quicker pointing , and maybe even a little more accurate .

Somebody has a rear mounted peep that mounts to the Ruger propriety mounts .

I'd likely bob 2" off the bbl and shorten the length of pull and give to my youngest son (I'd have to break it in first though )

I also have a 77/44 and I absolutely love it. Paid $630 for it so I'd imagine the 77/357 would be around that or even less. Well made, strong, smooth, good looking, and reasonably accurate (around 1" at 100yards with Hornady LeverEvolution). I have a 2-7x33 Leupold UltimateSlam scope mounted on there with the SABR reticle, and I'm comfortable with it out to 200 yards. Gunblast made a video on the 77/357 recently...

Yeah it doesn't hold as many rounds as a lever gun but it has a detachable magazine.  I can see how weight would be a criteria people are concerned about but why so hung up on slimness?

I have one.  My first range trip with it was so, so. I used handloads, Hornady 140 FTX's, 158 XTP's and 140 Reminhton bulk SJHP's all over 2400 powder. I'm too cheap to buy factory ammo. Anyway accuracy was mediocre, 2.5" to 3" at 100 yards. The trigger broke at close to 6 pounds, so that is the first thing that needed attention. I installed a Volquartsen sear and spring. Now it has a trigger pull of 2.25 pounds. I dropped it into a 77/44 stock already has the free-float treatment. I went back to the range this Monday and the FTX bullets now went into 1.5"  However the winners of the show were the 158XTP's at .75" and some 180 XTP FP's that went into .7"  Those were also loaded over 2400 powder. All groups were 3 shots. Being this carbine is so light, I am sure the lighter trigger pull made the most difference. Later, I plan the put the barreled action back into the original, unaltered stock and see if the groups open up. But, I'm very happy with my 77/357 so far.

They had a couple of these at a show I was at recently. They are nice rifles, but for the U.K market where getting a .357 or .44 Mag licensed for hunting can be a nightmare (Or impossible), they probably won't sell well. The lack of magazine capacity and price will probably make them unattractive to the target shooters looking for an alternative to a lever-action. Traditionally we use Enfield conversions for bolt-action PCCs, and they generally take Desert Eagle magazines when chambered in .357 or .44 Mag.

Personally I dislike the sights, cost, and magazines in particular. One thing I could see it being very useful for is precision pistol calibre shooting at distance, but it probably wouldn't be allowed in the competitions I shoot due to not being a lever-action.

This rifle plus an integral suppressor and .38 specials would be a hoot.

The .44 mag ones are popular for just such a conversion.  So popular in fact that unmodified .44 mag Ruger bolt guns are hard to find and damned expensive when you do find them.

I really like mine. I got mine for about $600. It shot all ammo 140 grain and up close to 2 " at 100 yards. The exception was Buffalo Bore 158's and 180's. These were closer to 1 1/4". Mine has a Leupold VX-R 2-7. I love it. Mine only wears the bi-pod for accuracy testing. It is very light and handy.

Nice. I love cast bullets out of mine.

I've played with the 180gc rimrock at super velocity.

The 240gr penn wadcutter at sub velocity

I've also played around with the 200gr penn gc at subsonic velocity

5.0gr of W231 pushes the 240s and 200s from penn out around 1050fps. I'm going to be playing with the 200gr cast performance bullet this weekend. So far the 200 grainers from penn have been the accuracy champs with subsonic loads averaging around 4" for 4 shots at 100 yards with a little 1-4x on top.

100yrds......whats the bullet drop from 50yrds to 100 yrds with the subs?  Does the barrel unscrew from the receiver?....or is it held in like a 10/22

good question, I'll ask my smith when I get my Form 1 back. I'm wondering if a custom barrel and chamber would help things out?

Im just wondering if I can get the barrel out of one without some $100 bracket and have ADCO cut it down, or I need to spend $150 and send it to some smith that knows what bore concentric threading is.

My smith cut mine down and threaded with out taking the barrel off.

Its an interesting concept but I think one in 44mag would be more usefull. It would be super cool if they brought back the 99/44 and had a 99/357 also. Then the next obvious thing would to have extended capacity mags like the 10/22 ones.

The 357 is a great round.  I see why they are doing it.

Wow short comings ???
1 at the widest point it's still less than 2 inches thick, has a very nice feel.
2. Sights are the same as the 10/22, very efficient and fully adjustable. I replaced my front sight with a fiber optic actually made for the 10/22 because they are identical.
3. 5 round mags run flawless and I have 6 spares so reloading is a snap.
4. Ordered mine brand new and beat the hell out of Gunbroker.(I wouldn't go to Gunbroker for anything or any other auction sight for that matter) their nothing but fund raisers.
5. The stock is nicly checkered where it needs to be, light weight and fast handling and very rigid.

Personally I don't see a single short coming including the somewhat heavy trigger which with a quick spring change brought it down to about 3.5 lb with no pre travel, very little over travel and a very crisp clean break.
I have since mounted a 3x9x40 Bone collector scope on it to see what it really could do and it is simply an awsome little rifle. The irons are extremely viable and I will probably go back to just irons because this is going to be my next deer gun.

Here are the contenders: L to R 240gr penn wadcutter, 210gr beartooth gc, 200gr cast performance gc, 200gr mt. baldy keith style. All with 5.0 gr of W231 they run between 980 and 1050 fps. The penn's are my least favorite, I'll have 10 shots group and then have a flyer that won't even hit the steel. I wonder if its a twist deal, no baffle strikes, the penn's are the longest bullet. The Penn's aren't 100% on the feeding either, I wish they made a 220gr with a better nose design for feeding with a gas check. With the beartooths I have to seat them past the crimp groove, COAL = 1.641", but they still shoot great. So far the accuracy champ goes to the cast performance bullets. I've ordered another hundred of the beartooths for a shoot off.

For terminals I really like the Mt. Baldy keith style but the accuracy just isn't up to what the beartooths and cp bullets are capable of. With no gc they are cheap though. Lately this has been my go to gun at the ranch. It doesn't bother the kids ears with subs and its very light even with the can.

Through the scope pic. I really like the 1-4 leupy. Where the bottom half of the circle intersects the cross hairs I have it zeroed for 100 yards on 4x. I might try and switch to TMR reticle or have a custom one created in the future. Still trying to decide on a bullet.

I love my ruger set up so much I'm considering a 358gremlin build now as well. 300gr lead bullets are cheap, I can get a savage 7.62x39 rifle for $500 and a 12 twist barrel for $250. Have my smith plumb it up for $200. Is this worth it to launch bullets weighting 90 more grains?? I'm afraid it might be.

Sanman, that 77/44 is beautiful.
I also plan on doing an sbr on a 77/357.  If I may ask where do you intend to engrave your info, barrel or receiver? what length do you intend to go with the bbl without losing all of the performance of the intended ammo?

I will engrave the receiver.  As far as barrel length goes, im going to start as close to the stock as possible.....that comes out to about 10".  I might see about cutting my stock when I get the gun taken apart.  As far as the performance of intended ammo...its just going to be 38 specials.  So I dont really care too much.  If i need performance, Ill hand load some 275 or 300 grain 44 mags for my 77/44.

Thanks for the response, I also intend to cut back to the stock, I was hoping to see if the fixed barrel adapter for the mystic will be able to recess into the stock with a little modification.
