My Colt 11.5" AR currently has a Magpul MOE buttstock, MOE+ handgrip, aluminum quad rail, TangoDown rail covers, and a TangoDown foregrip.  It feels abnormally heavy for its size.  I don't think I'll lose any weight except the handgaurd (want to retain the removable carry handle A2 type site).  Would I lose much weight if I went to a Magpul MOE M-lock handgaurd and the corresponding fore grip?

No.

Get rid of the handguard and vertical grip and replace it with an MOE and a MOE grip or if its free float something super light. If you want affordable I'd consider the ALG forend.

The carry handle sight is pretty unnecessary as well but do what you do.

To clarify the gun has a Midwest Ind drop in quad rail.

If you want light, you can get a lighter bcg, take off the handguard covers and vertical grip. You can change to moe or even basic plastic handguards also.

Since it's a Colt, I'm assuming you have a LW barrel?
I wouldn't swap a M16 BCG for a lighter one. You do not need a buffer heavier than a H buffer though.

The detachable CH adds significant weight. If you want A2 sights AND a CH, you should swap your flat top for an A2 upper. If you just want A2 sights, you should ditch the handle and mount a detachable stand-alone A2 sight on the flat top. LMT makes a nice fixed one, or there are many folding models.

The bolt carrier is the LAST thing you should change if you're looking to make your rifle lighter.

I agree with this.

Good luck without spending some real money on the lightweight specialty type stuff.
I can't remember what a carry handle weighs but i doubt it's much different than a t1~

This is a govt profile 10.5" without sling

I think rainier arms' Halloween email had titanium gas blocks for $49 and dollars to donuts you could snag an ALG rail for 20% on Black Friday

You'll be glad to know I changed my mind and picked up a new rear sight (A2 style without the handle).  Got it sighted in and all is well.  I also have the MOE handgaurd on the way.  I'll probably end up getting a M-lok vfg since I prefer that feel on the rifle.

And the transformation.  I'll probably still pick up a M-lok vfg.
