Okay I hope I can explain this properly on the screen as I can in my head lol. I plan on purchasing a stripped lower, then purchasing a parts kit, once I finish installing the parts kit the plan is to file a form 1. While waiting for the form 1 to be approved I'm gonna save up for a completed upper with a short barrel. When the form is approved....purchase the completed upper then put it together. How does that sound? Good? Now do I engrave all the marking BEFORE I purchase the upper or can I get it engraved AFTER I purchase the upper?

Here is the second part of this topic....

I plan on starting off with a stripped lower that has a caliber marking of "Multi". After reading on a few sites I know that the ATF does not have an option for "Multi" in their drop down menu on the e-form anymore. I guess I have to state the specific caliber now. If I know for a fact it will be a 5.56 can I choose that as an option from the drop down menu even though my lower says "Multi"? ALSO now...do I have to engrave the "5.56" as a caliber on the lower or is the "5.56" engraving on the barrel from the upper that I plan to purchase sufficient enough?

I really hope this makes sense,
Greatly appreciate any help or advice

Personally I'd engrave before I submitted the Form 1.  Since you are going to own the lower for a long time, I'd want to make sure I was happy with the engraving before I invested the $200.  As far as caliber, it will likely be stamped on the barrel so you won't need to engrave the lower.

What length upper?

You can engrave the lower at any point in the process. You don't have to engrave the caliber.

You can make it into a PISTOL first, while waiting on your approved f1.

You don't have to engrave the caliber IF the caliber is already marked on the receiver OR barrel. Not marked on barrel or reciever, then it will need to be engraved.
