Just had to share my story, im sure it has happened before.  I sent my SBR papers in on Feb11th.  on April 11th, i got a package back with my papers!! It was returned with no action because I didnt send them a check.  Which I did of course.  After taking out the papers and reading the explination, i flipped through the rest of the forms, and BEHOLD my check just falls out of the paper work, onto the floor.  At this point, I am curled up in the fetal position on the floor crying. I repackaged it and in my nicest tone of written scarsasm, told them the check was in fact In the papers all along, and perhaps they may consider checking the paperwork more throughly next time.  My ETA is now End of November QQ

While I can't say that I've been there... Your story just made me sick to my stomach. You have my condolences. :(   In the mean time if you wanna fill us in on what you're building (buying?), I'll gladly help you live in imagination land for a few minutes. :)

If it makes you feel any better, my trust should be finished on Tuesday. Which means my waiting hasn't even begun yet.

That sucks, but is also why everyone I've talked to paper clips the check to the first page. I also send them unfolded in a full size envelope with the check, Form 1s or 4s, (the I'm a legal person form), and my trust in that order all paper clipped together. The only thing stapled is my trust. I have this feeling that if they pull out paperwork that does not have a neon sign pointing the way to the check, they throw it in the return to sender pile. My last...errr...second to last item went pending 42 days after the check was cashed. It looks like it took them about 8 weeks to return yours. I hope that is not indicative of the approval times being longer...

This is why I paperclip it to the top.

This isnt rocket science.

Mine are paper clipped to the top as well. I usually send multiples in and each one is in it's own manilla folder and they all go in a USPS Priority Mail envelope. It is a bit of extra work, but no confusion and easy for them to do their thing with.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

My fault, I suppose I could have specified, the check WAS paperclipped to the top page.
I am going to build a 9 inch 300 AAC SBR

I see said the blind man. That means they managed to lose the check amongst the paperwork after unclipping it from the top page. This is a new level of...never mind. I see even loooooonger waits in our future.

Just paperclip it to the front again. Shit Happens don't sweat it. You know what my biggest fear has always been ? That I get approved and the send the stamp but something happens to me and it just ends up with the monthly bills, just another envelope.LOL

Assholes did the same to me last year cept my check was NOT returned. Had to spend $35 to have the check cancelled at the bank, write them a new one and start the wait
all over. Then when I returned it all they called to say I had to submit and supply a 3rd copy of the form 1...so another $10 for passport photo, another week wait for the LEO signature and
another delay. I was furious.

I don't ever send a check, I send a Postal Money Order. Supposedly it cuts a week off the delay. Don't know if its true or not but the general consensus is no wait on the funds or clearance of a check. It goes straight to the IRS.

As has been said before.....these, by and large, are not professionals.....they are hired paper pushers.

I dunno if that's true, but I wouldn't take the risk! If they lose yer money order yer out yer cash, plus you don't know when they cash it.  I'd gladly wait extra time, assuming what yer saying is accurate, to ensure I don't lose my $200.

I would say the check vrs money order is BS :)

Some have there checks cashed in the first week and some have there check cashed after they get the stamp back.

I think with the time it takes to start the process after receiving your package there is more than enough time for a check to clear before it hits the examiners desk. And I bet if your check bounces you don't get a stamp and are added to the list of people to come see :) lol

A  good tip is to use a personal check, and then keep an eye on your bank statement to make sure it's been cashed within a month of sending it in.  That way if something like this happens you haven't spent so much time on it.

On the wait times, go to the "wait time forum" and check the last 2-3 pages. Some folks who sent in paperwork last July and August just got approved this March and April. Depressing!!!

Let me tell about depressing.  Back in January of 2012 I traded a gun for a supressor from my friend/dealer.  I sat on the paper work for a month since I wasn't in a hurry.  Well later on I visit another gun store and ended up buying another supressor.  Was so excited about this suppressor that I forgot about the other one and for some reason believed that I had sent the paperwork of on it already.  Fast forward to October, gun store calls and says my paperwork came back and to come by to pick up the supressor.  Thinking the other might be in, I called my friend/dealer and ask if the paperwork for the suppressor that I traded came in yet.  He says no so I called ATF and see whats up.  Well they have no info and that's when I realized that I never sent paperwork in for that suppressor.
