You've been making posts about this SBR and can for a long time now. It's good to see it has paid off. It's a great looking rifle! I went through the same thing with a different SBR that I used to have. It was front-heavy so I put on a UBR. I really like the UBR, but I just did not like the trade-off. It was balanced better, but it was noticeably heavier. Now, I also have a 300 BLK SBR with the same can and I have a CTR stock. I had lightweight in mind, but after adding everything I thought necessary, it ended up being 9.5 pounds (light, sling, 30 rounds of 220 grain, Aimpoint, etc.). For a rifle, it's really not heavy, but when it is stripped down, but still loaded, it is over 2 pounds lighter. It feels almost toy-like. Since you have storage in that stock, try adding stuff to the stock to get it heavier and see for yourself if the trade-off between balance and weight is worth dumping the money into a $200+ stock.

Thanks, and I am real pleased with the way it turned out as well. As for the storage in the stock, pictured is actually a Sopmod Bravo. Not the standard Sopmod. So, no storage. I went ahead and ordered an FDE UBR just now. Should have it in a few days and I will just try them out side by side. I have a buddy wanting an FDE Sopmod for a build and if I like the UBR on this setup I will let him get the Sopmod Bravo. I may end up same as you, and prefer a slight imbalance with the can instead of additional weight, but I think I want to try it out. And I have always loved the UBR's for their brute strength anyway. |

It seems like the balance on your gun should be spot-on. You and I have a pretty similar setup. SDN-6, FUG, T1, Troy sights, SOPMOD (although I have the normal version), super lightweight handguard... http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd519/generalpurpose87/SBR/82_zpsdc6bb171.jpg Even with the silencer on mine, balance is behind the barrel nut. The main difference I see is that I don't have a flashlight on mine. Flashlights have their purpose, but if you want to fix the balance on your gun, toss that flashlight on a handgun and I think you'll be pleased with the result. Nice looking weapon, and thanks. This one of mine is going to end up spendinga a lot of time as a bedside gun. It needs a light. But I do have an Inforce light that is lighter than the Surefire, maybe I can seal them. |
