I have a 10.5 upper and about 2 times a mag it will FTE on me.  Currently it has a standard carbine buffer in it.  Which weight do you guys recommend to fix this?  I see PSA lists a h, h2 and an h3?
thanks

Daniel Defense MK18 lists an H buffer, I am rocking the noveske version of the mk18, and they have recommended an H2.  I have found this to be flawless.

What ammo are you running?  mil surp or 223?

I would bet that if you start with an H, you will be ok, the problems arise when you run too heavy of a buffer or too light of a load

Just read you are running a carbine buffer?  I guess there is the possibility that you may be over-gassed as well

I shoot mainly federal xm193 & m855

I would recommend that you put a O-ring around the extractor spring. The stock buffer will work fine. Special buffers are only needed for full auto m16 to reduce bolt bounce in carbines. Your problem is a very common problem with the the 10.5-12.5 barrels.

I already added the o ring and I am still experiencing the FTE. The bolt comes front with the casing half way out the ejection port.

Sounds like you are under gassed. Put a suppressor on it.

what brand upper?

I run an H2 on my 10.5" LMT, I keep an H in bag in case it starts acting up.

if the case is coming out of the chamber, but not being thrown out of the upper, that's a failure to EJECT. adding o-rings and high power extractor springs can just exacerbate the problem by putting excessive tension on the extractor and holding the case too tight...

I'd check your ejector spring, my ejectors are difficult to depress with a finger.

then i'd perform a short stroke test, one round in the mag, load gun, fire, see if the BCG locks back.

My RRA ran fine with the stock bolt and a carbine buffer, but the brass ejected forward. That means you're not getting some of it back at indoor ranges. So I put a BCM bolt & carrier in it. That fixed the ejection angle. Later on I put a Spikes ST-T2 buffer because I had one. No problems at all so far.

2 Noveske 10.5s. H works great.

Noveske 10.5.  I run a Spikes ST-T2 without any problems.

I ran a H2 in my 10.5 LMT CQB this past weekend without any issues. Most any AR will run with a carbine buffer. The buffer really slams the rear of the buffer tube and it feels like it is beating your gun to death though.. What BCG do you have in it? As said above check your extractor spring set up.. A heavier buffer would also be a good upgrade.

I bought the complete upper with bcg used and the guy I got it off couldnt remember the the maker so, I am not really sure who makes it as I cant find any markings on it at all.  I am going to try and replace the whole extractor, spring, insert and put a spikes st-t2 buffer in and see if it takes care of it.
Really wish I had a range in my house so I didnt have to run there every time to try out stuff

Sounds like you will have a smooth running rig in no time. I'm lucky in that I can drive 6 miles and shoot in the desert.... At least for now anyway...

Shot my 10.3" just yesterday. Have had a carbine buffer in it with no problems, tried the H1, both worked fine which tells me that I am probably over-gassed a bit.
No excessive wear or ding marks anywhere I can see, so the ejection cycle isn't violent by any means but think I will leave the H1 in it as a tamer. As a bonus, should
be able to fire it til it is whore dirty and have fewer problems as the heavier buffer will over power more grit and grime than the carbine one will given all else as equals.

I've always ran H2's in all my 10.5" SBR's and never had an issue to date.

(2) 10.5" Noveske's
(1) 10.5" LWRC M6A2
(1) 10.5" LMT

And I also run a H2 in both my 11.5" and LMT 12" MRP SBR's..
