How much money do you have invested into your SBR, including trust or other legal and ATF fees? This would be for a single SBR, not your collection.
I'm looking at acquiring a basic, quality AR SBR such as an LMT, BCM, etc.,. and would like to get a handle on overall cost. I'd likely go the trust route and use a knowledgeable lawyer. TIA, Ray R |
|
I'm still working on mine, but the costs are going to be pretty much the same. The big savings in the NFA world when going the trust route is whether or not to involve a lawyer.
Tax stamp: $200 Trust: $10-$40 with Quicken (depends on the software version you buy) or $100-$600 with a lawyer. If you have a CLEO that will sign off, you're out time and the cost of photos and fingerprints. Notarization of trust: $10-$20 at some notary public but probably included with a lawyer's fees. Making copies of forms and sending to ATF: Can't be more than a few dollars. If I'm missing something, I'm sure someone will chime in. |

No problem.
Oh, no, don't do this to me....The AR that I am going to SBR is currently in parts. I think I have everything but a stock (I will run it in a pistol 'til the stamp arrives) and I used premium parts. You can do a basic SBR for much cheaper, say by buying a complete BCM or LMT upper and picking up used parts off the EE (my upper and charging handle are used). Also, not all of my accessories are necessary and are a matter of personal preference. Further, I still need to pick up a vice and torque wrench to assemble myself, which also increases the cost. I would like to be able to work on my own guns, so it seems like a reasonable investment to make. Noveske lower: $200 (you can find a lower cheaper and I definitely overpaid) DD 10.3 barrel: $256 DD low-profile gas block: $56 Gas tube: $12 Colt upper receiver: $155 Colt BCG: $150 (took out of a complete upper that I sold) PRI M84 gas buster charging handle: $70 DD Mk18 RIS II: $308 KAC 300m rear buis: $77 KAC taupe front buis: $186 (this one always hurts but it's worth it) G&R Tactical LPK: $55 (no grip included) LMT receier extension, castle nut, CMT H2 buffer: about $50 but it's hard to say since I got most parts in a kit Magpul MIAD grip: $42 (also bought a CR123 grip core) Magpul BAD: $25 CQD sling mounts (front and rear): $59 Optic: won't be getting that for a while. Total (gulp): $1546 That number is actually not that bad considering the parts that I have in this thing. Add another $100 or so for a stock (probably more since I will most likely want a SOPMOD). That's about par for the course for a top-of-the-line AR. You could probably get a factory SBR (e.g., Colt 6933) for a little less but you will also have fees for Form 3 transfers (dealer to dealer). I like that I get to have all my parts on hand during the whole waiting process. |

It just depends on what you want and what you can afford. I would seriously consider going with the Apple Law Firm for trusts. The Quicken route may get you approved, but where it stands to have issues is when you are dead and gone and your heirs have your weapons and the trust is invalid which makes the heirs possession illegal. YMMV |

Even if you left your NFA items to a beneficiary without a trust, they have time to sort things out. The BATFE doesn't just show up and take them away forever. Such fear mongering. Az |

But do what you want, it doesn't affect me one bit. |

Also take a look at Christopher Bass. He's out of Houston I believe, but he did everything for mine via email. He usually charges 600 but he charges 300 to ARFcom members. Tell himm you're a member here and he'll take care of you. As far as my SBR, about 4.5-5k including my trust, SBR, suppressor, tax stamps, sales tax, transfer fees, optics and accessories.

Some people's prices are out of whack. I have a hard time believing people pay MSRP and more for a majority of these parts. Shipping costs. You always should add in shipping cost. I guess. I think some people googled the highest price they could find. But whatever, not really a big deal. Regardless, this shit gets expensive quick. |
