| I thought about picking up another upper but in 5.45x39. I'm thinking piston (I'm going to run the surplus ammo through it...and a lot of it) but I'm seeing other offerings like this SPIKES DI upper. Anyone running an SBR in this caliber? |

Anyone running an SBR in this caliber? I have a lot of 5.45 for this very reason. I'm hoping that spikes will do a MOE version of this upper though. I don't need the rail and I just want it as an inexpensive blaster upper. |

I will be running one next thursday. I had the Spikes on order and it will be here Wednesday, then to the range on Thursday. I was wanting an 11.5" barrel, but this will do for now. The 8" upper I have linked above...or another build. Thanks! Its the 8" upper you have link from AIM. AIM shipped it yesterday and I will get a report when I shoot it Thursday. |
| I've got two 11.5" uppers, one is a cut down S&W with an Adams Arms piston kit, one a cut down Alexander Arms (DI gas system), and a 8" Spikes (also DI gas system). All three run great in both semi and full. I did have to open up the gas port a few thousands of an inch to work with the piston system. I also run a YHM .308 suppressor on the Alexander Arms upper with no ill effects. I'm a believer in the 5.45 round and stocked up when it was cheap. |

Some have said it will be noticeably louder than 5.56. Think so? |

Some have said it will be noticeably louder than 5.56. Think so? [/quote] The 5.45 with the YHM .308 suppressor sounds just like the .223. To me, it sounds like an unsuppressed 22LR, which is pretty good when you consider how loud these short beasts are without a suppressor. I also my can in Ballistol for a day or two after shooting 5.45 through it so I don't get any corrosion issues, which has worked very well for me. |
