Alright Arfcom, I have a 10.5" SBR with OAL of 28" and upper alone is 21".
I will be moving to attend grad school , and the only transportation I am bringing along is my motorcycle. What I am looking for is a durable backpack that I can pack my SBR and ammo whether assembled or broken down. The back pack will also double duty for school books ect. I have looked at the Eagle SBR backpack but the price is pushing me away from that. I have also looked at the 5.11 Covrt select carry sling pack. But have not read much about its use of carrying an SBR and ammo to range and back. So what ye say Arfcom? Any other choices I should look at that would be able to at least carry my 21" upper while broken down? Im estimating my price limit would be $200. Thanks in advance Edit: sorry about weird sentence structuring, Im posting this from my iphone. |

Eagle makes a SBR pack for Noveske. Price is $195.00.

| Yes Ive seen that one, and it looks real good. It says it will hold a fully assemble 28" or less and since mine is at 28"OAL im not 100% sure it wont be a tight fit. However if I break it down instead, i might as well look for a cheaper backpack that will fit my 21" upper. Know what i mean? |

The 5.11 Select Carry Sling Pack is really designed for an MP5 (pistol or with an A3 collapsable stock). I have seen pics of an M4 in the pack –– he just separated the upper from the lower. There is on outer pocket for holding mags/papers and the inside has a lot of webbing so you can attach molle pouches.

EDIT: Actually, click on the product link and check out the reviews to see pics of the M4. |

I use an OGIO gym bag for mine. I put a thin piece of board in the bottom to prevent sag. I can get my 10.5" LMT and my 6" 9mm SBR's both in there with some mags. I take the rifles apart and wrap the halves in old shirts to protect them. Not a scratch on them after carrying this way every week for the past 3 years. |
| I been reading up more on the 5.11 pack, seems its alot more useful as an everyday bag more then for carrying a short weapon, which appeals to me more actually. I also like the compartment in the front for carrying a pistol which would be great also. Alrighty, im sold on the 5.11, thanks everyone for the help. |

Nice creative setup you have there! Quoted: Here is something I did recently for my SBR (still waiting on my stamp). The SBR will fit very easily along with mags, ammo, etc. I reinforced the inside with an iso mat. The rifle pictured is a 14.5" middy with a perm attached muzzle device. http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss324/Ryegye/P1000882.jpg http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss324/Ryegye/P1000880.jpg http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss324/Ryegye/P1000879.jpg http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss324/Ryegye/P1000878.jpg |

Ive also got a 7.5" upper for mine, so we'll see how well it fits. But other then that I guess I wont mind breaking down my 10.5" upper. The 5.11 should come in sometime next week so we shall see. But I am pretty tickled about it having a pouch for a pistol, and where I bought it from I am also getting the 5.11 small pack which Im guessing is a fanny pack as a free bonus. EDIT: I went with the 5.11 mainly due to the price. I bought the 5.11 for $125 shipped along with the free fanny pack on ebay. |

But the the front pack comes off, and it includes a waste belt, so it can double as a stand-alone fanny pack. Not sure if that's what you're getting, or if you are getting another fanny pack in addition. |

Since you mention double-duty as a school backpack, I've used one of the Swiss-Gear laptop bags. Break the rifle down and it fits in there great. The laptop portion is heavily padded and separated from the rest of the bag, so one half is kept from scuffing against the other. Looks like a normal backpack (because it is) and the reason I had this bag is because I originally used it when I was still in college. I think it was around $85-100. Obviously it wasn't made for this purpose, but it is considerably cheaper, still sturdy, and doesn't draw attention to itself.
That being said, I am looking to find a bag (probably not backpack style) that I can fit my 10.5 inch rifle into without disassembly. ETA: Kinda like http://www.wengerna.com/synergy-ga-7305-14 |
