I first posted this in the AR forum, but then remembered this corner of the site.

I have this stripped lower in my safe. I'm thinking about getting it engraved for SBR.

If I go that route, the next decision will be what barrel length on the upper. I'd like it to be compact (naturally), yet still reasonably effective.

My thoughts are toward separating the receivers and carrying them in a discrete bag that doesn't say I've leaving the house with a rifle each morning. That way I can stow it behind the seat of my truck, and if it is needed, two pins and I'm in business. The key point is that I don't want unnecessary attention going between the house and truck and back.

So, what would be the shortest length for a barrel that would still provide effective performance out to a max of 200 yards?

Well, it's kind of a personal preference and a compromise.  I got them in 7.5 11.5 14.5 16 and 20.  My ONE "go to gun" is 11.5.

Pretty compact with stock stowed.
Silencer friendly.
Colt must have a reason to make the Colt Commando 11.5.
Still pretty good muzzle velocity.

Just me.

Fits nicely in a $20 double tennis racquet case from Dick's, and certainly holds its own at 200yds.

I'd say a 10.5 or 11.5 in a SOTech Go Bag Extended with padded insert.

I guess I'll call dupe on myself here, since my original post in the AR forum was moved here by a mod.

Dupe!
