[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Removing horn buttplate

I've got an Auto 5 in to do some work on, and the buttplate needs to be replaced. I've got the screws out, but the plate is firmly stuck to the butt. Not sure if it would have been glued at some point or if the resins that leach out of the horn can have this effect. At any rate, any good suggestions as to getting it off?

Maybe apply some mild heat?? from a hairdryer?

When did Browning ever use a horn buttplate?

Anyway, try a hairdryer. Or just a little harder tap than you've already tried, but use a pad!

ETA: some of the old early buttplates look like they might be horn.
