Project Flame Cannon:
So I picked up a rusted Mosin Nagant 91/30 for $40 with a 17" barrel. I removed all rust, returned the bore to a mirror-like finish, and sanded/bedded the stock. I also recrowned the barrel, and gave the stock a sweet tiger striped camouflage finish. My dilemma: I want to port the barrel, because, well why not? It's already what some would refer to as an abomination, but I figure might as well go all out. I was thinking about using an end mill to put three slots on each side of the barrel, about an inch from the muzzle. Is this safe to do, having the ports in the rifled section of the barrel? Also, would adding a 45 degree bevel to one or both sides of the ports on the outside be beneficial? Thanks for any advice, I'm just trying to double-check my own knowledge. I'll put pictures up when I'm done. |
