I just purchased a M70 in 300 Win mag.  Has a beat up wood Monte Carlo stock i want to refinish and bed.  Should I bother bedding the wood stock or sell it and buy a synthetic stock?  Rifle is for hunting primarily, but would like to make it a long range shooter as well.

Pillar block and glass bed it.

Trust me, you'll love it.

Pillar bed the stock you have.  Your investment will be very small if it doesn't work out and you decide to buy a new stock.

I like the look of an honest rifle with a quality wood stock that shows it has been used in the woods.

This is the answer I was looking for.  I think I will try my hand at pillar bedding.  I have done a little woodworking in my day, so refinishing a stock shouldnt be too bad.  Midway has some good videos.
