I'm taking my MT6601 to a local smith in a few weeks to get the A2 treatment.  I am scrounging up parts right now.

I bought this rifle back in the ban days and put on the pictured compensator.

It appears the set screws dug in (or were drilled in, can't remember) past where the threading would be.  So these will be visible after the threading unless something is done.

What are my options?  What should I ask him to do?  Can he turn down the barrel where the marks are and re-park?  Should have the barrel cut?

Cutting threads over those marks shouldn't cause a problem.

Well, I measured and I think the threads will no go far enough to cover up the marks.  That's what has me concerned...

I would thread it, most if not just about all of the marks wil be gone.

All you will see is a few small spots where the thread crest is flattened.  Furthermore, I imagine you will be threading something onto the threads, thus covering them.  If that is not the case, the threads should have a thread protector screwed onto them.

Are you talking about the thread depth or the length of them going down the barrel?
Either way, what you put on it afterwards should cover the marks you are concerned about.

Guess who your local Smith is?
It will be just fine as the turning to reduce the diameter to .500 prior to threading will make them magically disappear.
Nighthawks specs that he kindly provided are standard fare for an AR so that is what you get unless you state otherwise.
No worries eh!

Nice!

Thanks everyone––I was freaking out for a little bit.  I had no recollection of jacking the barrel up like that.  When I took that break off to get it ready for Hockeysew, I was

Well, At least I didn't drimel it!
