Just put together a Rem 700 SA and Shilen short chambered barrel.  Finished reaming,I thought I screwed up when the bolt  freely fell closed on the go gauge.  Didn't have a no-go, so I put a piece of cellophane tape (.002) on the head of the go gauge.  Didn't close, what a relief. Oh yeah, it took me 8 full turns to get there. Today, since it's raining so hard and I've got a gun show to go to, I inserted a primed new piece of brass measured at -.002 (1.628).   and fired it. After firing, I measured the primer protrusion at .002.  I'm thinking this brings me to 0 headspace (1.630).  Am I correct?  Btw, this is a .308.  Can anyone tell me if my method is flawed or will a charged case react differently?

Either way, I'm going out and brave the rain today to verify my findings.  Hopefully my fired cases will measure -.001 or .000.  Not that it matters much as long as the headspace is within specs.
