Anybody have any ideas on the best way to plug an AR15 barrel for parkerizing? Especially the gas port.

Go to the hardware store.
Buy a piece of threaded stock 3/16 inch diameter about 30 or more inches long. Also get couple of 3/16 flatwashers and buy about 6 or 8 sink/faucet type washers assorted diameters with a flat side and a cone side and a couple of 3/16 diameter wing nuts. Then go to Wal Mart and buy a box of modelling clay. Completely strip the barrel. Plug the gas port with a small piece of modelling clay. Use plenty to make sure it is closed. Put the piece of threaded stock in the bore of the barrel install the smallest of the sink washers closest to the breech , then install a flat washer and a wing nut, All of this stuff should fit inside the barrel extension. Finally pull the threaded stock tight so the breech is sealed and install a couple of sink washers at the muzzle end. Follow up with a flat washer and a wing nut. Get the wing nut as tight as you possibly can. The bore should be sealed after this. Bead blast and then parkerize. Then while holding the barrel submerged a arinse tank of plain cold water remove the muzzle wing nut, flat washer and sink washers. Repeat for the breech end and thoroughly rinse the bore to remove/dilute any park solution that may have leaked into the bore. Finally clean the bore thoroughly with bore brush and Hoppe's or equivalent bore cleaner. I have used this method for many thousands of barrels. It works quite well. Charles.

We use tapered high temperature silicon plugs available at McMaster Carr.
