I purchased one of the new no-lock S&W 442-2 j-frames. I have shot it twice and each time the locking bolt pin has fallen out. The first time I lost the pin but found the spring and locking bolt. I called S&W customer service and they sent me a new pin at no charge. I installed it and went to the range. With in 20 rounds the new pin also fell out. This time I found everything and put it back together.

Is there anything I can do to keep the pin from falling out again or should I just send it back to S&W?

The pin is undersized or the pin hole is over sized.

If you want to stay with just an interference fit, send it back to S&W for them to fix.

Or

Get some Blue loctite (if you use green or red... better have a large hammer) and put a SMALL amount on the end as you insert the last part of the pin into the hole.

Send it back to S&W after you call them for authorization.

I expect they will repair it at no charge.

Do not try any 'bubba' type repairs.

Update.

I received the gun back from S&W on monday with a note saying they replaced the locking bolt pin. This had me worried because if the first two both fell out then what would be different on the third?

Fortunately, they must have put a larger diameter pin in or something as I took the  gun to the range yesterday and had no issues with the pin.

Glad S&W fixed it for you.

They have good warranties and good service.

Charles.
