Taurus RPC - Is it happening? (Page 2 of 2)
|
I bought an RPC with the Stike brace two days ago and had literally 10 minutes to shoot in the rain today, so here's my micro review for a micro PCC. I shot about 20 rds each of BPS 124gr NATO spec 9mm from my RPC and my AP5 Navy (8.9" bbl). The RPC has noticeably more muzzle flash and report from the 4.5" bbl. It is a little more snappy if you're paying attention and shoot them back to back, but its not bad at all. The bigger gun is (surprise, surprise!) easier to shoot with the thicker handguard, but I like the controls on the RPC. Trigger is fine; no complaints. I'm a small framed guy and this thing feels subcompact to me, but its big enough to control. I've never shot one of those handgun chassis things, but I feel like this would be a lot easier to shoot. No accuracy testing yet since it was raining. This thing is noticeably lighter and more compact than an AP5. You can throw it in an open backpack and people probably wouldn't even notice it. |

I previously thought this was gonna be another possible addition to my growing PCC collection but honestly as long as 922r is a thing unless they suddenly started making them in the US it’s a no buy for me. Not being able to easily SBR it kills it. It’s a shame since it does have some redeeming qualities. |

TBH, I was more worried about the engraving since it’s a chassis system, but since that’s going away it’s no longer an issue. I’m just waiting for it to actually be in stock. |

I can't even begin to guess how many SBR's were built on foreign guns and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone caring about 922. |

Not a good showing on Honest Outlaws first rounds. Lots of failures.![]() The Worst PCC I Have Ever Shot |

They fired Federal 115gr, Blazer, and his own "competition" ammo (which I assume is a handload). All caused major malfunctions. They also verified the correct locking piece was installed. They didn't do it in the video, but I would be curious to see how it functioned with a suppressor and the suppressed locking piece installed. |

Blackhawk Armory has an interesting package deal for the gun, brace, red dot, and suppressor for 1699. RPC kit |
I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

I see what you did there. I'm kinda waiting on the Zenith ZF9 but apparently there's a delay. Classic firearms did a very large review on a bunch of 9mm PCC and of all them (not certain if the RPC was in it) the Beretta (no longer produced) blowback won. |
| This Past week I was at my local fun store with my kid when he was getting his first AR-15. Me and the owner was talking and I was getting prices on some guns I was asking about him ordering. I asked about the RPC and apparently there was a Taurus RPC Factory SBR there. I never saw it but apparently it came in for someone. He could not show it to me. Not for sale to the public yet. BUT it was a Factory Taurus RPC SBR!!! They have had some of the RPC Pistols with and without braces come in before come in on transfer. BUT this was new. His opinion on them was "Kinda EH" they are small but not as small as you think looking at pictures. They are "Neat" he said but some have had to go back. |

I saw their big review, and do have many of the PCCs they tested, including a Beretta PMXs, and not sure I agree with their rankings. |

I’m curious to hear what Taurus did to the ones that got sent back to fix them, if they did indeed fix them. I haven’t seen a follow up to the Honest Outlaw video on if he sent it back, got it fixed, or what they said they did. That kind of information would be helpful. |

Agree - I am on the fence with picking one up. I like PCCs and can resolve minor issues, but I do not need a continued problem child. |

Picked one up on Sunday and took it out today. It didn’t go well. Started off unsuppressed with the 110 locking piece and 124 grain Magtech. 10 rounds no issue. Swapped to 147 grain Fiocchi, which I’ve run in other PCCs without issue, and first 3 rounds in a row failure to eject. Rounds didn’t jam, the bolt just appears to not have gone back far enough for the spent case to clear the chamber. Tried 147 grain Winchester, no issues. Went back to the Fiocchi, and ran fine the second time. Not sure what the issue was. Next tried to swap locking pieces to run suppressed, and the 85 degree locking piece wouldn’t go in the carrier. My suspicion is there’s something wrong dimensionally with the 85 LP that prevents it from going into the carrier deep enough to turn and lock it in. The 110 LP goes in and out OK. I’ll have to call Taurus tomorrow and arrange to get it fixed under warranty. The gun had obviously been test fired with the installed 110 LP, but the 85 LP was clean, so I suspect it wasn’t test fired. I did fire a couple of rounds suppressed using the 110 LP and all combinations of ammo and suppressors worked fine, but it’s pretty disappointing that it has to be repaired new out of the box. |

Conceptually, the Taurus system should run just as good as HK’s, but you need to make the parts correctly. If a locking piece won’t even fit in the carrier, that’s a manufacturing and QC issue, not a design problem. I called Taurus and they sent me a label to ship the 85 degree piece back and are going to send me a new one. |
| TBH, not being able to use the 85 degree locking piece really cut into my plan as I really wasn’t that interested in shooting suppressed with the 110 degree locking piece. I only fired a total of 30 rounds and about half suppressed. Not enough to make a real judgement. I’ll have to wait until I get a replacement locking piece to make useful comparisons. My initial impression is that the initial trigger pull is heavy and a bit spongy. |

I got my replacement 85 degree LP from Taurus and took it out today. I had first round failure to eject from both magazines, no matter what ammo, and no matter whether the mag was full or half full. Strangely, the rest of the mag feed without issue, every time. I was running 147 grain with my Milkman suppressor. It did seem that ejection was a bit lethargic compared to other 9mm PCCs I’ve run. I’ve also found that it doesn’t like 150 grain Syntech, either suppressed or unsuppressed, and no matter which locking piece I used. I assume that it’s just underpowered for the gun, although I don’t have any problems running the Syntech in most of my other guns. As for firing, I got a bit of gas, and it definitely had more recoil than my SP5K-PDW that I brought for comparison. No gas from the HK. It simply isn’t as good a shooter as the HK, although it uses an almost identical roller lock delay design. I’m pretty disappointed. I’ve got about 15 9mm PCCs, and it’s probably my least favorite one to shoot. I don’t recommend it. |
