what modifications could be made to a full size UZI to modernize it? i know they came out with the new UZI pro, but its nowhere near the same as the Original fullsize, i looked at the BRS-99, which I've heard of being referred to as the final evolution of the UZI, i see it has a side charging cocking handle, how would that improve things over the top charger? except for adding room for a full length top rail.

anyone care to chime in?

For me, I'd like a closed-bolt conversion for my open-bolt full size SMGs - they're a bit hard to source.

I added a bayonet lug rail for forward grip, I have the semi so I added a fake suppressor/sleeve over the barrel as well.

For modernization, a top rail and perhaps better iron sights.

For ease of use, perhaps some weight savings using a polymer lower and other parts like the Pro.

Guy at UziTalk sells a rail with directions, I bought a spare top cover and Gunkoted it and modified it for semi then mounted a RMR, very nice.

nothing, it's an uzi, it is what it is, want something more modern? then you're better off starting off with something more modern.

The RMR mount is literally the only thing I could see changing on mine. I could see if somebody wanted a forward grip though.

If you'd ever shot one, you might change your mind.

It's stupid fast, and mine is unreliable because of it.

A tri-lug barrel for a suppressor and a railed top cover for a red dot would be my only changes. My IMI MINI is awesome suppressed.

Meep in mind that the Uzi is the pinnacle of 1950's submachinegun design.

It does not readily adapt itself to weight reduction or modern features without major redesign.

In my personal opinion, it is best to appreciate the Uzi for what it is- an iconic if somewhat dated weapon, and go with a modern firearm if you want modern features.

Have to agree with Sven. It's an Uzi, they are a blast to shoot, my Model B is accurate and reliable.

What did you have on mind? Optics?

I might indeed, Garrett - but I'd like to make that decision personally, if I can.

I have seen some people lighten up the bolt for semi autos due to it not needing to have the extra weight for early ignition on the SMG variant.

However, I believe it could benefit from the same improvements that they made to the UZI pro. Side charging handle, Polymer lower grip stick. I do like the UZI Because its metal all over, not just where it needs to be, but i was just brainstorming what could be changed on it.

I have to admit I'd like some sort of higher-viz sights.  Haven't seen anything though.

What i did to mine was i drilled out the rear 100M sight, It's hard because its a hardened steel, but it has a much quicker to acquire sight picture now.

QD VFG made by cutting off the lamp parts of an Uzi searchlight; and an adjustable length (QD) stock.  There's a rail for a flashlight added on the right side of the VFG bracket.  To get the range on the stock to go from shorter than the wood stock to longer than the folding stock using the six positions of the AR stock, the buffer tube is threaded back to the adjustment lug and just over an inch is cut off off the front of the tube, and about 5/8" is cut off the front of the stock.

I've got a top cover with a short rail in front of the rear sight that I had a red dot on for a while, but I haven't used it in years.

MHO, YMMV, etc.
